The Sundown Roughettes took on the New Deal Lady Lions for UIL District Softball play this past Tuesday as the away team where the Roughettes run ruled them 16-0 over four innings.
At the start of the game it was Sundown that was able to get out to a four run lead after Brynly Gregory doubled, scoring one run, Destiny Garza singled, scoring two runs and an error scored one run.
The Roughettes were able to add another two runs in the second after the Lady Lions committed an error, making the score 6-0 at the top of the second.
At the top of the third inning the Roughettes scored six runs on eight hits. Emry Jourden doubled, scoring one run, Breigh Gregory singled, scoring one run, Garza singled, scoring two runs, Camry Jourden tripled, scoring one run and Araceli Ibarra singled, scoring one run making the score of the game 12-0.
At the top of the fourth Sundown was able to get their final four runs of the game after Emry Jourden, Gregory, Garza and Camry Jourden scored in the end to win their district matchup.
Gregory started at the mound for the Roughettes as she gave up one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out four and walking one.
The Roughettes also piled up 17 hits throughout the game. Gregory, Emry Jourden, Camry Jourden and Paola Huerta each collected multiple hits for Sundown.
Garza drove in five runs on four hits to lead the Roughettes on their road win.
The Sundown Roughettes progress to 20-3-1 on the season while remaining undefeated in district play with a perfect 7-0 record. The Roughettes played against the New Deal Lady Lions again this past Saturday at home for their second matchup in the year.
