Bobcats handle Antelopes in two game series

The Smyer Bobcats took on the Post Antelopes this past Friday and Monday where the Bobcats won both games district play.

Smyer 12, Post 2

For their first matchup this past Friday at Smyer it was the Bobcats that would take the win 12-2.

Post was the first team to get on the board in the top of the second inning when a steal of home scored one run.

Smyer tied the game up in the bottom of the second after Austin Martinez hit a sacrifice fly. The Bobcats eventually took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Skylar Pond singled, scoring one run, Aiden Martinez singled, scoring one run and Kaden Price doubled, scoring two runs; making the game 5-1.

In the top of the fifth Post was able to get one more run after the batter hit a single on a ground ball to second baseman to send in the runner to make the score 5-2, Bobcats still leading.

To end the game it was all Smyer as they scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pond singled, scoring one run, Austin Martinez doubled, scoring two runs and Price singled, scoring one run.

Price opened the game up for the Bobcats as he gave up five hits and two runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking two.

The Smyer Bobcats tallied up 13 hits in the game. Price and Austin Martinez were a tough duo to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Smyer. Pond went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Colton Burriss collected two hits for the Bobcats in four at bats. The Bobcats were sneaky as they were able to steal four bases throughout the game.

Smyer 7, Post 4 

It was a slow game in the beginning as the Bobcats were the first team on the board at the top of the fourth after Caleb Pearce hit a single to get the team a run.

The Antelopes answered back though as they had two runs go for them in the bottom of the fourth from a ground ball to left field that went for a single and sent home two runners, making the game 2-1 Post leading.

Pond was able to respond for Smyer as he singled, tying the game up at two a piece.

The Bobcats were finally able to grab the lead at the top of the fourth after the Antelopes committed an error, and Alex White grounded out, each scoring one run.

Post wasn’t going away easy though as they tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth thanks to two walks.

In the top of the seventh, Smyer was able to break the tie when Price singled, scoring two runs, then an error followed to extend the lead to 7-4 for the Bobcats.

Austin Martinez started on the mound for the Bobcats as he gave up five hits and four runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out 10 and walking two.

The Bobcats tallied another nine hits against the Antelopes. Price provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Bobcats with two runs batted in. Pond and Aiden Martinez each collected two hits for Smyer. Pond and Aiden Martinez each stole multiple bases for the Bocbats. Smyer ran wild on the base paths, piling up four stolen bases for the game.

Smyer swept the Antelopes in their two game series as they get ready to take on the New Home Leapords this upcoming Saturday as the visiting team at 11 a.m. and their second game of the series next Tuesday at home at 4 p.m.

The Bobcats progress to 106-1 on the season while going up to 5-3 in district play sitting at fourth in district.
