The Ropes Eagles played against the Post Antelopes this past Saturday and Monday for UIL District Baseball play where the Eagles won 10-0 after five innings the first time around and 18-7 the second time.

Ropes opened up the scoring against the visiting Antelopes at the bottom of the first inning after Kade Franklin hit into a fielder’s choice, and Colton Mortensen singled, each scoring one run.
The Eagles were able to extend their lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning thanks to RBI singles by Mason Marmolejo and Brady Bryan making the score 4-0.
Mortensen was able to get another run for the Eagles in the bottom of the third inning making the score 5-0, after he hit a single off of a ground ball.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Ropes was able to put the game away after the Eagles scored five runs on four hits. Kanon Buckner singled, scoring one run, Franklin singled, scoring one run, the outfielder inducted Mortensen to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one scored, an error scored one run and Brayden Hogg singled, scoring one run.
Bode Franklin earned the win for Ropes as he gave up two hits and zero runs over five innings while striking out 11 and walking four in the team’s contest.
Ropes was able to rack up 11 hits throughout the game. Mortensen and Franklin were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for the Eagles.
Ropes 18, Post 7
For the Eagles second game against Post they were the visiting team as they won on the road 18-7.
Ropes was the first team on the board in the top of the first inning after they had three runs go for them. Kanon Buckner hit a double on a line drive to right field, scoring one run, Braxxin Partington hit a double on a fly ball to left field, scoring one run and Colton Mortensen doubled on a fly ball to left field, scoring one run, making the score 3-0 early.
The Eagles didn’t stop their as in the top of the second inning they scored nine runs on nine hits. Buckner singled, scoring one run, Kade Franklin singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Garrett Morgan singled, scoring two runs, Bode Franklin singled, scoring one run, Mason Marmolejo singled, scoring two runs and another error scored the last run, making the score 12-0 in the blink of an eye.
Post was finally able to get onto the board in the bottom of the second inning after Ropes committed an error sending two home.
Ropes had one run go for them in the top of the third after Franklin singled on a fly ball to the shortstop, scoring one run and making the score 13-2.
The Antelopes were able to get some offense going as in the bottom of the third inning they had five runs in two hits go for them, cutting the Ropes lead down 13-7.
The Eagles answered right back as they did the same and scored five runs on two hits in the top of the fourth inning. Morgan drew a walk, scoring one run, Cutter Stumbo singled, scoring two runs and an error committed by the Antelopes scored two runs.
Maddux Sierra earned the win for the Eagles as he gave up one hit and four runs over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking five.
Morgan appeared in relief for Ropes as he gave up three hits and three runs (two earned) over two and two-third innings, striking out three and walking three.
The Eagles tallied up 17 hits throughout the game. Kade Franklin, Bode Franklin and Buckner each collected three hits for the Eagles. Franklin, Marmolejo, Morgan, Buckner and Strumbo each drove in two runs for Ropes. Partington collected two hits for the Eagles in four at bats. Mortensen paced the Eagles with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Marmolejo stole four bases in their contest, the team as a whole stole four. Ropes turned in two double plays in the game.
The Eagles progress to 17-4 on the season and their district record improves to 5-1 with their only loss coming from Tahoka.
The Ropes Eagles get ready to take on the New Home Leopards this upcoming Saturday as the visiting team at 11 a.m. and next Tuesday as the home team at 4 p.m.
