The Ropes Eagles hosted the New Home Leopards this past Tuesday for the team’s second matchup against them for UIL District Baseball play where the Eagles fell 5-1 in a defensive game.
The first team on the board was the Leopards early in the top of the first inning after their batter hit a home run to left field to make the score 1-0 early.
The Leopards extended their lead in the top of the second inning after their batter hit a single to drive in a runner and make the score 2-0.
The scoring died down until the top of the fifth inning when New Home got another run from a ground out that got one more runner home to make the score 30.
In the top of the seventh inning New Home finished off their scoring as one batter hit a double and another hit a solo home run to make their score 5-0. Ropes was able to get onto the board in the bottom of the seventh inning after Braxxin Partington struck out swinging and Kucel Buckner scored on an error by New Home’s center fielder to make the final score 5-1.
Bode Franklin took the loss for Ropes as he gave up three runs on four hits over five innings, striking out six and walking five throughout the game.
Cutter Stumbo appeared in relief for the Eagles as he gave up three hits and two runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out four and walking one in their contest.
The Eagles struggled against New Home as they had one run throughout the game while getting no hits.
The Ropes Eagles fall to 17-6 on the season and go down to 7-3 in district play.
The Eagles wrap up district play as the will face off against the Smyer Bobcats this upcoming Tuesday as the visiting team at 4 p.m. and Friday at home at 4 p.m.
