Roughettes finish as the #1 seed in district

The Sundown Roughettes took on the Hale Center Lady Owls as the visiting team this past Friday to wrap up district play as the Roughettes won 10-3 in UIL District Softball play.

The Roughettes were the first team on the board at the top of the first inning after Brynly Gregory doubled and Destiny Garza tripled, each scoring a run and the Roughettes scored on a wild pitch to make the score 3-0 early.

Hale Center was able to get a run in the bottom of the first after their batter hit a single to drive in a runner and cut Sundown’s lead to just two.

Sundown had another run go for them in the top of the third inning when Gregory tripled on a hard ground ball to center field to send in Emry Jourden to make the score 4-1.

The Lady Owls cut into the lead after they hit a single on a hard ground ball to left field in the bottom of the third to make the score 4-2.

In the top of the fourth inning, Sundown was able to get three runs on three hits to go for them. Jourden hit a double, Brynly Gregory hit a single and Breigh Gregory hit a double, each scoring a run to make the score 7-- 2.

Sundown was able to top of their scoring in the top of the sixth inning after Gregory singled on a hard ground ball to center field, Camry Jourden singled on a line drive to center field and the catcher dropped the third strike letting Araceli Ibarra get to first, each scoring a run.

Hale Center got their last run in the bottom of the seventh after their batter hit a single on a line drive to left field to make the final score 10-3.

Destiny Garza earned the win for Sundown as she gave up eight hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out 15 and walking three in the game.

The Roughettes gathered 16 hits throughout the game. Breigh Gregory, Garza and Emry Jourdan each collected multiple hits for Sundown. Brynly Gregory had four hits in four at bats for the team.

The Roughettes finish off district play with a 13-1 record finishing as Co-District Champions with the Floydada Lady Winds. Sundown finished as the first seed for the Bi-District round of playoffs.

The Sundown Roughettes are facing the Post Lady Lopes this Friday at Post at 6 p.m. then follow up with game two at Sundown on Saturday at 12 p.m. with game three 30 minutes after that if needed.
