The Sundown Roughettes took on the Post Lady Lopes this past Friday and Saturday for the first round of playoffs where the Roughettes won in two games.
Sundown 16, Post 0
For the team’s first matchup, Sundown had to travel to Post where they won 16-0 after five innings of play.
The Roughettes were the first team on the board in the top of the first inning after Destiny Garza hit a single off of a fly ball to center field to make the score 1-0 early.
Sundown was able to add another run in the top of the second inning after Ericka Posadas doubled after a 6-pitchat- bat, making the score 2-0.
In the top of the third inning, Sundown opened up their scoring as they had four runs go for them. Brynly Gregory tripled, Garza singled, Camry Jourden doubled and Post committed an error, each scoring one run making the score 6-0.
The Roughettes kept pouring it on as they scored eight runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Emry Jourden doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Garza doubled, scoring one run, another Post error scored two runs, Allie McCormick singled, scoring two runs and another Lady Lope error scored one run, making the score 14-0.
Sundown had their final two runs go for them in the top of the fifth after Camry Jourden doubled on a fly ball to right field and Post committed another error, each scoring one run making the final score of the game 16-0.
Breigh Gregory earned the win for the Roughettes as she gave up two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out 13 and walking two in the game.
Sundown accumulated 14 hits in their contest. Garza and Posadas each collected three hits for the Roughettes. Garza and Jourden were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Sundown. Gregory and Jourden each collected multiple hits for the team. Gregory stole two bases while the team as a whole had four. The Roughettes were sure-handed in the first game as they didn’t commit a single error, Gregory made the most plays with 13.
Sundown 15, Post 0
For the Roughettes second game of the series they hosted the Lady Lopes where they won 15-0 in four innings.
Sundown was able to get on the board early in the bottom of the first inning after Garza doubled on a hard ground ball to center field and Camry Jourden doubled on a line drive to left field, each scoring one run making the score 2-0.
In the bottom of the third inning the Roughettes scored six runs on four hits. Breigh Gregory drew a walk, scoring one run, Garza hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Allie McCormick was struck by a pitch, driving in a run and an error by Post scored another two runs, making the score 8-0.
The Roughettes wrapped up their scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning after they had seven runs on five hits go for them. Araceli Ibarra doubled, scoring two runs, Paola Huerta singled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Brynly Gregory tripled, scoring one run and Breigh Gregory drew a walk, scoring one run to make the final score 15-0.
Garza earned the win for the Roughettes as she gave up three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking none in the game.
For Sundowns second matchup they were able to rack up 12 hits in the game. Garza, Emry Jourden, Camry Jourden, Posadas and Ibarra each collected two hits for the Roughettes. Garza and Ibarra each drove in two runs. Sundown turned in one double play in the game.
Sundown progresses to 284-1 on the season and Bi-district Champs. The Roughettes took on the Sunray Lady Cats this past Tuesday at Plainview for game one and will take them on again for game two on Saturday at 12 p.m. with game three directly following game two if needed.
