The Sundown Roughnecks hosted the New Home Leopards this past Friday for UIL District Baseball Action where the Roughnecks fell 14-1 in five innings.
New Home was able to get four runs in the top of the first inning after one batter was walked, scoring one run and two sacrifice fly’s, scoring three runs making the score 4-0.
Sundown got their only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning after Jayson Martinez scored on an error by the Leopards making the score 4-1.
In the top of the seventh inning, New Home had three runs after one batter was walked, scoring one run and another batter hit a single, scoring two runs making the score 7-1.
The Leopards capped off their scoring run in the top of the fourth inning after they scored seven runs on five hits.
Jaxon Rodriguez took the loss for the Roughnecks as he gave up seven hits and 14 runs (eight earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking 10 in the game.
Martinez appeared in relief for the Roughnecks as he gave up two hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none.
Rian Rose and Martinez each collected one hit for Sundown. Sundown had a strong eye at the plate as they collected eight walks for the game.
Caleb Clausen and Martinez led the team with two free passes each. Martinez stole two bases. The Roughnecks turned in one double play in the game.
The Sundown Roughnecks ended their regular season with a 9-10 record finishing in fourth place in district. The Roughnecks face off against the New Deal Lions this Thursday at Lubbock High at 3 p.m. with game two directly after game one and game three on Friday at 5 p.m. if needed.
