Roughnecks end season in Lubbock

The Sundown Roughnecks took on the New Home Leopards this past Thursday and Friday at Frenship High School where they lost in two games.

New Home 9, Sundown 3

For the team’s first matchup of the series Sundown fell 9-3 after seven innings.

The first team on the board was Sundown in the top of the first inning after Rian Rose tripled on a line drive to center field, scoring one run and giving the Roughnecks the early 1-0 lead.

New Home answered in the bottom of the second inning after they scored one run on a passed ball and Sundown committed an error, scoring two runs making the score 3-1, Leopards leading.

The Leopards added onto their lead in the bottom of the third inning after their batter hit a triple on a line drive, scoring one run, the Roughnecks committed an error, scoring one run and another batter hit a double on a line drive to right field, scoring one run to make the score 6-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning New Home was able to get two more runs after they hit a double, scoring one run and their other run off of an Sundown error, scoring one run to make the score 8-1, New Home leading.

Sundown was able to get a run in the top of the fifth inning after Rose grounded out, scoring one run to make the score 8-2.

New Home got their final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after Sundown committed another error to get the Leopards in and make the score 92.

Sundown got their final run of the game in the top of the seventh inning after Rose grounded out and an error by the first baseman sent in Jayson Martinez to make the final score of game one, 9-3.

Martinez started on the mound for the Roughnecks as he gave up four hits and six runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking two.

Caleb Clausen appeared in relief for Sundown as he gave up one hits and three runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking three in the game.

Rose provided pop in the middle of the lineup as he led the Roughnecks with two runs batted in going 2-for-4 on the day. Clausen went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Sundown in hits. Jaxon Rodriguez paced the Roughnecks with two walks. The team had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. The Roughnecks turned in one double play.

New Home 4, Sundown 0

For both team’s second game of the series New Home was able to put the series away with the 4-0 win over Sundown.

New Home had two of their runs in the bottom of the second inning after their batter hit a home run to send in two runners and make the score 2-0 and another batter hit a double on a line drive to left field, scoring one run to make the score 3-0.

It was a very defensive game as the Leopards got their final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after their batter hit a single on a fly ball to right field, scoring one run to make the final score of the game 4-0.

Isaac Lopez started on the mound for the Roughnecks as he gave up four hits and three runs (one earned) over two innings, striking out none and walking none.

Jaxon Rodriguez appeared in relief for Sundown as he gave up one hit and one run over four innings, striking out seven and walking three in the game.

Sundown ended their season with a record of 13-13 on the season as the fourth seed in district while still finishing as Bi-District Champions and Area Champions on the year.
