Ropes Eagles move up to No. 8 in 2A

The Ropes Eagles took on the Forsan Buffaloes this past Friday night where the Eagles won in another blowout, 44-0, on the road.

Ropes was on the board first after Mason Marmolejo broke off a 15-yard run for the touchdown to make the score 7-0 early after the made PAT from Reese Williams.

The Eagles added onto their lead with a one-yard run from Kade Franklin to make the score 13-0 after a missed two-point conversion.

For the second quarter of the game, it was all Ropes once more as Kade Franklin threw a touchdown pass from 31-yards out to Marmolejo with a good two-point conversion to make the score 21-0, going into the halftime break.

At the start of the third quarter Ropes scored their first touchdown of the second half with a 10-yard run from Ryland Kieth.

The second touchdown was another touchdown pass from Franklin to Colton Mortensen from three-yards out and finally the last touchdown of the game was another Kieth rushing touchdown from seven-yards out to make the final score 44-0.

Franklin threw the ball for 135 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Zayden Pittman threw once for eight yards on the night as well.

Marmolejo led the team in rushing with 13 carries for 119 yards and one touchdown on the night. Kieth carried the ball for 12 times with 57 yards and two touchdowns, Pittman had four carries for 38 yards, Jacob Wyatt had seven carries for 38 yards, Kaden Riker had one carry for four yards and Franklin had one carry for one yard and one touchdown.

The leading receiver on the Eagles was Williams who had three catches for 93 yards and one touchdown. Marmolejo had two catches for 34 yards and one touchdown, Riker had one catch for 13 yards and Mortensen had one catch for three yards and one touchdown.

The offense was rolling throughout the game with 257 rushing yards and 143 passing yards with 400 yards of total offense on the night. The team had 13 first downs compared to Forsan’s eight along with no turnovers to the Buffaloes four.

Leading the team in tackling on the night was Brady Bryan with 18 tackles. Riker and Kanon Buckner both had 17 tackles each, Kolter Dockery had 14, Elijah Flores had 11, Trak Crow had 10, Victor Saenz had nine, Reid McCaleb had seven, Tyler Harbuck and Mike Williams both had six a piece, five Eagles had five tackles a piece in Mike Sanchez, Jace Fowler, Gabe Sanchez, Pittman and Mortensen, Reese Williams and Branson Simental both had four tackles each, Kieth had three, Marmolejo and Jackson Lehnen both had two and Wyatt had one on the night.

Two Eagles had one interception each in Reese Williams and Kolter Dockery while Reese Williams also had two fumble recoveries during their contest. Brayden Hogg and Sanchez both had one sack on the quarterback on the game.

The Ropes Eagles progress to 5-0 on the season, staying undefeated as they get ready to take on the Tahoka Bulldogs this Friday to start off district play as the away team at 7 p.m. Tahoka is coming off of a win against Grape Creek and coming into the game with a 4-1 record on the year.
