Levelland Lobos take down Lake View Chiefs

The Levelland Lobos hosted the Lake View Chiefs this past Friday night where the Lobos won, 44-26.

The start of the game was all Levelland in the first quarter as they scored from a two-yard run courtesy of Boston Winfield. The lead was pushed to 7-0 after the made PAT.

The Lobos carried their momentum on defense as Eryk Jones had an interception for the Lobos, giving them another chance to score.

Despite the great defensive play, the Lobo offense stalled out giving the ball back to the Lake View offense. Levelland’s defense would go back to work and earned themselves a safety to make the score 9-0 early.

Back on defense, the Lobos would force the Chiefs to punt. Kaden Brogden would return the punt for a touchdown to flip the game on its head to make the score 16-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Chiefs finally got on the board in the second quarter from an 11-yard pass to make the score 16-6 after their PAT was blocked.

Levelland would get back on offense where they would give the ball back off an interception.

San Angelo took full advantage of the turnover afterwards as they ran the ball for 60-yards to make the score 16-12, after a missed two-point conversion.

Coming out halftime, Levelland struck on offense once more after Noah Martin broke off a 17-yard run to make the score 23-12 in the third quarter.

The Lobo defense held strong once more to give the offense another chance to score which they took full advantage of.

A 50/50 ball would be thrown to Eryk Jones where he would come down with it to make the score 30-12 after the made PAT at the end of the third quarter.

Lake View had two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter of the game, both from the air as they made the score 37-26.

Levelland put the final touches on the game after Lobo Ricky Rodriguez ran the ball in for another touchdown from 21yards out to make the score 44-26 and giving Levelland the win.

Levelland did well offensively moving the ball down the field as they had 170 passing yards and 188 yards on the ground for 358 yards of total offense.

Boston Winfield led the team in passing with 99 yards through the air with two interceptions on the game. Ethan Salazar threw for 69 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions.

Ricky Rodriguez led the team in rushing yards with seven carries for 49 yards and one touchdown on the night. Noah Martin had five carries for 48 yards and two touchdowns, Salazar had one carry for 23 yards, Winfield had three carries for 18 yards and one touchdown, Jake Potter had six carries for 14 yards, Jones had one carry for nine yards and Gage Potter had one carry for six yards.

The leading receiver for the Lobos was Jones with two catches for 32 yards and one touchdown. Rodriguez had three catches for 24 yards, Zaden Carrillo had two catches for 22 yards, Gage Potter had four catches for 20 yards, Martin had one catch for 19 yards, Kaden Brogden had three catches for 14 yards and Eli Randol had one catch for five yards.

Defensively for the Lobos Randol led the team in tackling on the night with 11. Gage Potter had another 10 tackles, Gabe Hernandez had eight, Noah Tienda had six, Deven Ponce had five, Tobias Gavina, Isaiah Avendano and Gage French all had four tackles each, Jones, Josh Diaz and Jake Potter all had three tackles each, seven Lobos had two tackles each in Sean Landrum, Rodriguez, Kysen Niblett, Bryson Golightly, Tanane Brackens, Zarian Valderas and Braden Pharis and finally Matthew Romero and Zion Childers both had one tackle on the night.

Gage French, Randol, Ponce and Valderas all had one sack a piece while Hernandez had one and a half.

Jones and Randol both had one interception on defense on the night.

The Lobos progress to 3-2 on the season as they took on the Snyder Tigers this past Friday for Homecoming. Levelland will be on the road against Estacado at Lowrey Field on October 10. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
