The Smyer Bobcats hosted the Sundown Roughnecks this past Friday for both team’s district opener where the Bobcats fell, 42-6.
The first quarter of the game it was all Sundown as they led against the Bobcats, 6-0, early on from their dominant run game.
In the second quarter of the game, the Roughnecks were able to recover a fumble from the Bobcat offense on their own side of the field to set up the Sundown offense.
Sundown took full advantage as they punched the ball in from two-yards out to make the score 20-0 after a missed PAT going into the halftime break.
Starting off the second half of the game, Sundown started with the ball but had the ball striped from them that was returned for a touchdown to make the score 20-6 after a missed twopoint conversion from the Bobcats.
There was a stalemate of offenses as both had to punt the ball away from each other before Sundown was able to score after their defense forced an interception. Sundown was able to pass their way into the end zone to make the score 28-6 after a made two-point conversion.
Sundown was able to force another three and out from the Smyer offense where they scored once more, this time on the ground from five-yards out to make the score 36-6 after their made two-point conversion.
For the final score of the game it was the Roughnecks that rushed from eight-yards out to make the final score 42-0 after their failed two-point conversion.
The Sundown offense was able to rush for 367 yards while getting another 61 through the air. The Roughnecks only gave up the ball twice off of fumbling the ball while throwing zero interceptions.
Leading the Roughnecks in passing was Adan Escamilla with 58 yards and one touchdown.
Leading the team in receiving yards for Sundown was Nathan McAdams with two catches for 34 yards and one touchdown. Nathan Flores had one catch for 24 yards and one touchdown and Isaac Lopez had one catch for three yards.
Rushing for the Roughnecks was led by Marcus Solis who had 10 carries for 156 yards and one touchdown. Toby Lopez had eight carries for 73 yards, Dago Chagoya had five carries for 44 yards, Brayson Frey had five carries for 21 yards, Trevor Bridges had five carries for 19 yards along with Rayden Flores having two carries for 19 yards, Escamilla had six carries for 17 yards, Coen Nevarez had two carries for 10 yards and Lopez had two carries for six yards.
Sundown had two interceptions on the night with Nevarez and Solis both having one a piece in their contest.
The Smyer Bobcats on offense had -33 rushing yards and 96 passing yards. The team only had one fumble on the night along with two interceptions thrown against the Roughnecks.
Skyler Pond passed for 87 yards and two interceptions in their contest.
Dylan McPhail led the team in rushing with 13carries for 24 yards, Rylan Smith had one carry for nine yards and Pond had 11 carries for negative 26.
Leading the Bobcats in receiving yards was Smith with three catches for 26 yards, Ryann Gutierrez had nine catches for 31 yards, Alex Mattox had one catch for 10 yards and McPhail had one catch for negative five yards.
The Smyer Bobcats fall to 0-6 on the season while starting off district 0-1. The Bobcats took on the Ropes Eagles this Friday on the road at 7 p.m.
The Sundown Roughnecks progress to 1-5 on the season as they kick off district 1-0. The Roughnecks took on the Plains Cowboys on the road as well at 7 p.m.
