The Morton Indians took on the Lockney Longhorns for the team’s district opener on the road where the Indians won in a close one, 14-13.
The first score of the game came in the first quarter from Lockney where they were able to punch it into the end zone from four yards out to take the lead and make the score 7-0 after a made PAT.
There wasn’t much action after that until the second quarter when Morton got a huge 60-yard run from Brayden Villarreal to take the lead and make the score 8-7 after a good two-point conversion.
There was no more scoring until the fourth quarter of the game when the Longhorns were able to get another rushing touchdown from 12-yards out to make the score 13-8 after they didn’t get their two-point conversion.
With the game on the line for the district opener Morton was able to drive down the field and get into the end zone from a fiveyard run from Villarreal to take the lead and win the game in a close 14-13 match.
Villarreal led the team in passing with 95 yards on 11 passing attempts. A.J. Mendoza had three passing attempts for 15 yards.
Leading the Indians in rushing was Villarreal with 22 carries for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Christian Enriquez had nine carries for 26 yards and Lane Lyon had one carry for one yard.
Leading Morton in receiving yards was E.J. Rivas with two catches for 61 yards. Enriquez had one catch for 18 yards, Jaeden Alvarado had two catches for 16 yards, Lane Lyon had one catch for 15 yards and Mendoza had one catch for five yards.
The Indians had two sacks on the night from their defense with one coming from Enriquez and the other from Britton Boggs. The defense had one interception in their contest that came from Villarreal.
The Morton Indians progress to 2-4 on the season as they start district 1-0.
The Indians took on the Ralls Jackrabbits this Friday on the road at 7 p.m. for their second district game of the season.
