The Whiteface Lacy Lope High School Girls’ Basketball have been busy winning their own Way Out West Tournament with a 5-0 run over the weekend and starting UIL District 2A-5 play with a 70-10 domination of the Morton Indians.
The Lady Lopes were a question mark in several minds at the beginning of their first 2A season in many years, but they have jumped out to a 16-2, 1-0 record and are currently ranked 11th in class 2A by the Texas Association of Basketball coaches.
Way Out West In addition to the tournament championship, senior Jaedyn Rector was named to the alltournament team.
Whiteface 35, Borden County 34
The Lady Lopes opened by beating an always tough Borden County team 35-34 at noon on Thursday.
Whiteface trailed 14-13 at the end of the first, but led 22-19 at half and 31-29 at the end of the third quarter.
Rector led the scoring with 13, Lainey Sanders had 11, Kambry Sanders had seven and Tymmyah Olenga had four points.
Whiteface 63, Ft. Davis 9
Game two found the Whiteface girls dominating Ft. Davis 63-9 on Thursday evening. The Lady Lopes led 23-2 at the end of the first quarter, 37-7 at halftime and 54-7 at the end of three.
Kambry Sanders had 15 points. Emily Blankenship had 13. Abi Soliz had nine. Olenga had eight. Rector had six. Lainey Sanders, Kami Nunn and Anias Soliz had four each.
Whiteface 51, Friona 22
On Friday, Whiteface downed Friona 51-22 in the morning game. The Lady Lopes led 11-0 in the first quarter, 24-3 at halftime and 39-10 at the end of the third period.
Blankenship led with 16 points. Kambry Sanders had 10. Rector had eight. Anias Soliz had six.
Olenga had five. Abi Soliz and Lainey Sanders had five each.
Whiteface 46, Olton 32
The Lady Lopes beat Olton 46-32 in the fourth game on Friday afternoon. The Whiteface girls led 19-8 in the first quarter, 31-16 at halftime and 35-26 at the end of three periods.
Rector had 11 points. Olenga had 10. Blankenship had nine. Lainey Sanders had eight. Kambry Sanders had six. Abi Soliz had two.
Whiteface 41, Newcastle 32
Whiteface downed Newcastle 41-32 in the final game of the tournament Saturday morning.
The Lady Lopes led 8-6 in the first quarter, 17-13 at halftime and 31-18 at the end of the third quarter.
Olenga had 15 points. Rector had nine. Blankenship had eight. Lainey Sanders had six and Kambry Sanders had three. Whiteface 70, Morton 10 start of district play
The Lady Lopes opened district play with a 70-10 win over the Morton Maidens Tuesday night.
For Whiteface, Blankenship had 17 points. Kambry Sanders had 16. Olenga had 12. Rector had nine. Abi Soliz had seven. Lainey Sanders had five and Anais Soliz had four.
Ada Torres Led the Maidens with six points. J’Lynn Marquez had two. Blaize Garcia and Chloe Aguirre had one each.
The Lady Lopes will host Seagraves on Monday at 7 p.m.
