The Morton Indians took on the Smyer Bobcats this past Friday in Smyer where the Indians won 72-40.
The first quarter started off with both team’s going blow for blow as Morton outscored Smyer 18-16, taking a two-point lead going into the second quarter of play.
In the second quarter the Indians started to pull away as they scored 22 points before the half while holding the Bobcats to six points, making the score 40-22.
Leading the Indians in scoring at the halftime break was E.J. Rivas with 11 points, nine of them from long range.
For the Smyer Bobcats the leading scorer at the half was Micah Zapata with 12 points, 10 of them coming from the first quarter.
Going into the third quarter of the game Morton was able to outscore Smyer again, this time 13-12 to extend their lead by another point to make the score 53-34 going into the fourth quarter of action.
For the final quarter of action Morton put the final touches on the game as they scored a whopping 19 points while they held the Bobcats to six points to take the district win.
Leading the Morton Indians in scoring was E.J Rivas with 16 points. Cade Lyon had 15, Tra Holland had 14, A.J. Mendoza had 10, Jaeden Alvarado and Lane Lyon both had six a piece, Britton Boggs had four and Brayden Villarreal had two points.
For the Smyer Bobcats the leading scorer was Micah Zapata with 20 points. Rylan Smith had nine, Skylar Pond had four, Mason Medart had three, Austin Martinez had two and Micah Stevens had one point.
Morton led the game in rebounding with 41 boards while the Bobcats had 17 boards in their contest. Smyer led the game in steals though 11-9 against the Indians. The Indians shot the ball for 45% from the field while going 50% from the charity stripe. For the Bobcats they shot the ball for 42% from the field while going 41% from the free-throw line.
The Morton Indians progress to 3-4 on the season as they get ready to take on the Klondike Cougars December 31, on the road at 11:15 a.m.
For the Smyer Bobcats the fall to 4-5 on the season as they get ready to take on the Whiteface Antelopes January 3, on the road at 7:30 p.m.
