The Ropesville Lady Eagles competed in the Caprock Tournament this past week where they finished the tournament going 2-2.
Ropes 35, Jacksboro 52
For the Lady Eagles first game of the tournament they went against the Jacksboro Lady Tigers where they lost 52-35.
To start the game the Lady Tigers took a lead over Ropes winning the first quarter 11-7, taking a four-point lead going into the second quarter.
For the second quarter it was more of the same story for the Lady Eagles as they were outscored 21-14, trailing 32-21 at the halftime break.
Leading the Ropes Lady Eagles in scoring at the halftime break were both Rylie Lester and Madi Reyna with five points a piece.
Out of the halftime break it was a defensive battle for both sides as the Lady Eagles were still outscored by one point making the score 39-27 going into the final quarter of the matchup.
For the fourth quarter of play the Jonesboro offense was too much for Ropes as the Lady Eagles fell 52-35 in their first game of the Caprock Tournament.
Leading the Lady Eagles in scoring against Jonesboro was Lester with 11 points in the game. Reyna had another eight points, Delyla Stark had seven points, Brooklyn Hogg had five points and both Bailey Turner and Alyssa Welch finished with two points a piece.
Ropes 29, Vega 42
In the Lady Eagles second game of the tournament they had to face-off against the Vega Lady Longhorns where they lost 42-29 in a close game.
The Lady Eagles started off by scoring seven points in the first quarter and another eight in the second quarter to give them 15 points while they trailed Vega going into the halftime break.
Leading the Lady Eagles in scoring at the half were two players in Stark and Turner, both with five points a piece.
To close out the game the Lady Eagles put up 14 points in the second half while the Vega Lady Longhorns took the 42-29 win over Ropes.
Lester led Ropes in scoring in the game with nine points. Hogg had another six points, Turner and Stark both finished with five points and Reyna had four points.
The Lady Eagles were outrebounded 35-23 and outblocked 1-0 in their matchup with Vega. Ropes was able to lead the game in steals with 10 of their own while giving up the ball only nine times.
Ropes shot the ball for 19% from the field while going 29% from the charity stripe against the Lady Longhorns.
Ropes 71, Anton 25
For the Lady Eagles third game of the tournament they went up against the Anton Lady Dogs where they won 71-25.
From the start Ropes was in control as they scored 27 points while holding Anton to only two points taking a 25-point lead early.
In the second quarter it was more of the same for the Lady Eagles as they outscored Anton 16-3, making the score 43-5 at the halftime break.
Leading Ropes at the half in scoring against Anton was Lester with 10 points, six of them from close range.
In the third quarter of play Anton outscored Ropes for the first time 14-13 cutting into the lead but not by much as the score sat at 56-19 going into the fourth quarter.
For the final quarter of play against the Lady Dogs, Ropes put the game away as they scored 15 while holding Anton to only six in the end to take their first win of the tournament.
Ropes leading scorer against the Lady Dogs was Hogg with 19 points. Lester finished with 16 points, Stark had 11, Annabelle Falls and Reyna both finished with seven points a piece, Karli Rhoads and Welch both finished with four a piece and Turner finished with three points.
Ropes 68, Brownfield 53
For the Lady Eagles final game of the tournament they were able to beat out the Brownfield Lady Cubs 68-53, to end the tournament 2-2.
It was a back and forth game in the first half as Ropes outscored Brownfield 20-13 in the first quarter while they were outscored 20-13 in the second quarter, making the score 33-33 going into the halftime break.
Stark led the Lady Eagles in scoring at the halftime break with nine points, four of them in the second quarter.
Although the first half of the game was close for both teams, Ropes was able to pull away in the second half of the game.
In the third quarter Ropes outscored Brownfield 19-14 taking a five-point lead going into the fourth quarter of play.
For the final quarter of action Ropes was able to do the same thing as they scored 16 points while holding the Lady Cubs to six points, taking the 68-53 win against Brownfield.
Stark led the Lady Eagles in scoring in the contest with 22 points. Reyna had another 11 points, Hogg and Turner both had nine a piece, Lester had eight points, Rylee McDaniel had five points and both Welch and Falls finished with two points a piece.
The Ropes Lady Eagles progress to 17-6 on the season as they get ready to take on the Seagraves Lady Eagles this Friday on the road at 6:15 p.m. for their second district game of the season. Their district opener was against the Whiteface Lady Lopes this past Tuesday at home.
