Morton Indians finish tournament play, 2-2

The Morton Indians competed in a tournament this past week where they went 2-2 overall.

Morton 54, MKCA 83

For the start of the tournament the Indians had to face-off against the McKinney Christian Academy Mustangs where Morton lost 83-54.

The start of the game had McKinney taking a eight-point lead with the score sitting at 2113, going into the second quarter of the game.

In the second quarter it was Morton outscoring the Mustangs 22-18, cutting into the lead and making the score 39-35 going into the halftime break.

The third quarter is where the game got out of control for the Indians as they were held to seven points in the third while the Mustangs put up 30 to extend their lead to go into the fourth quarter.

For the final quarter of the game Morton kept it close but eventually lost the matchup 8354.

Tra Holland led the team in scoring with 14 points on the game. Lane Lyon and E.J. Rivas both had nine points a piece, Jaeden Alvarado, A.J. Mendoza and Brayden Villarreal all had six points a piece and Cade Lyon finished with four points in the game.

The Indians shot the ball for 33% from the field while going 75% from the free throw line.

Morton 46, Clarendon 42

For the second day of the tournament Morton went up against Clarendon for the first match of the second day where the Indians won in a close one 4642.

Morton took control of the start of the game as they scored 10 points while holding Clarendon to four points.

The second quarter was back and forth but eventually the Broncos won the quarter 10-8 cutting into the Indian lead making the score 18-14, Morton leading.

Coming out of the halftime break Morton was outscored again, this time 11-6 as they no longer had the lead with the score sitting at 25-24.

For the final quarter of the game Morton was able to come alive as they scored 22 points while they held the Broncos to only 17 points, taking their first win of the tournament.

Morton had two players in double digits of scoring with Rivas scoring 19 points and Lane Lyon with 13 points. Alvarado had nine points and Holland finished with five points.

Morton shot the ball for 24% from the field while going for 81% from the charity stripe against Clarendon.

Morton 72, Tulia 51

For the Morton Indians second game of the second day in the tournament they faced off against the Tulia Hornets where they handled business and won 72-51.

Morton took full control of the game from the jump as they outscored Tulia in the first quarter 15-9 then outdid them in the second quarter 23-9, taking a 38-18, going into the halftime break.

For the second half of the game it was closer for both teams as Morton won the third quarter 19-17, extending their lead by two points but then lost the fourth quarter by one point. It didnt matter though as the Indians won the game 72-51.

Four Morton Indians finished with double digit points in Rivas with 21 points, Holland with 17 points and both Lane Lyon and Alvarado with 11 points a piece. Britton Boggs had seven points and Mendoza had five points.

Morton shot the ball for 41% from the field while they shot for 63% from the free-throw line.

Morton 40, Alpine 57

For the Indians final game of the tournament they had to go up against the Alpine Bucks where they fell 57-40.

In the first quarter it was a back and forth game that was all tied up at 11 points going into the second quarter of the game.

In the second quarter Morton fell behind in scoring as they were only able to put up four points while Alpine kept going, scoring 14 of their own to make the score 25-15, going into the halftime break.

Out of the halftime break it was more of the same as the Alpine offense was scoring at will putting up another 17 points while Morton was held to eight points, making the score 42-23 going into the final quarter of play.

For the fourth quarter Morton was able to outscore the Bucks 17-15, but it was too late as Morton fell 57-40 for the last game of the tournament.

Brayden Villarreal led the team in scoring with 16 points in the contest. Holland had another seven points, Mendoza had six, Lane Lyon and Rivas both had four points and Alvarado had three.

Morton moves onto 6-6 on the season as they get ready to take on the Sundown Roughnecks this Tuesday on the road at 7:30 p.m.
