The Whiteface Lady Lopes High School Girls Basketball team continued their winning ways with a 4-0 run at the Gruver Holiday Classic High School Basketball Tournament last weekend.
Whiteface 49, West Plains 40
The Lady Lopes took down class 4A West Plains (Canyon) 49-40 in the opening round of pool play on Friday.
Kambry Sanders was hot in the first quarter, putting up four baskets. Lainey Sanders added two baskets and Jaedyn Rector had a basket giving the Whiteface girls a 14-8 lead in the first quarter.
The second quarter saw a lot of free throws. The Lady Lopes went 3-for-6 from the line while West Plains when 4-for-7, but Whiteface led 23-18 at the buzzer.
A trey each from Kambry Sanders and Hannah Blankenship along with four points from Rector and two from Emily Blankenship kept Whiteface in the lead 35-29 at the end of the third quarter.
A 6-for-7 team performance at the free throw line along with three point baskets from Tymmyah Olenga and Emily Blankenship and a two pointer from Rector put the Lady Wolves away in the fourth quarter.
Rector led all scorers with 19 points. Kambry Sanders had 11. Olenga had six. Emily Blankenship had five. Lainey Sanders and Hannay Blankenship had four each.
Whiteface 55, Childress 19
Whiteface dominated Class 3A Childress 55-19 in the second game on Friday.
The Lady Lopes went up 115 in the first quarter, then turned on the heat for a 26-7 lead at the halftime buzzer. Whiteface outscored Childress 29-7 in the second half.
Kambry Sanders had 12 points while Hannah Blankenship and Jaedyn Rector had 11 each.
Lainey Sanders had seven, Tymmyah Olenga had six, Emily Blankenship had five and Abi Soliz had three.
Whiteface 42, Stratford 31
The Lady Lopes finished off the Lady Elks from Stratford 42-31 on Saturday morning. Both teams had trouble with the other’s defense in the first quarter as evidenced by a 4-2 Whiteface lead at the buzzer.
Stratford caught up in the second quarter, taking a narrow 15-14 lead into halftime. Both teams scored eight in the third, then Whiteface caught fire in the final period, scoring 20 points on the shooting of Emily Blankenship, Abi Soliz and Tymmyah Olenga while holding the Lady Elks to nine.
Soliz had 10 points, Olenga had nine, Emily Blankenship had eight, Jaedyn Rector had six, Lainey Sanders had five, Kambry Sanders had three and Hannah Blankenship had one.
Whiteface 32, Texline 26
Whiteface beat Texline 32-26 in their last game of the tournament. The Lady Tornados came out hot, holding the Lady Lopes to a three point shot from Hannah Blankenship and a free throw from Jaedyn Rector while scoring 12 themselves in the first quarter.
Whiteface started to work their way back into the game in the second period and trailed 2016 by the halftime buzzer.
The Lady Lopes cut the lead by another basket, 24-22 at the end of three quarters, then outscored Texline 10-2 in the fourth.
Hannah Blankenship had 12 points, Rector had five, Lainey Sanders, Kambry Sanders and Tymmyah Olenga had four points each. Abi Soliz had three.
The Lady Lopes will be in Plains on Tuesday for a 6:15 p.m. game.
