Antelopes take down Smyer Bobcats at home

The Whiteface Antelopes had little trouble with the visiting Smyer Bobcats in a 71-30 UIL District 5-2A high school boys’ basketball win on Friday.

The Antelopes hit eight three point shots, four of which came from Jeremiah Rendon. Ethan Kauffman hit one and Isaak Soliz had the other three.

Whiteface jumped out to a 6--0 lead early and led 19-5 at the end of the first quarter.

The Antelopes started the second quarter with an 8-0 run over the first four minutes and took a 36-13 lead into halftime.

Smyer was able to match Whiteface for the first three points of the third quarter, then the Antelopes went on a 10-0 run.

The quarter ended with Whiteface up, 53-22. Whiteface outscored the Bobcats 18-8 in the fourth.

Two Antelopes were in double points scoring. Rendon had 27 points and Soliz had 13. Kauffman had nine, Auscar Gandara had eight, Cesar Chavez had six, Jaxon Hodge and Victor Borunda had four each.

Smyer’s Rylan Smith led the Bobcats with 13 points. Micah Zapata and Mason Medart had seven each. Austin Martinez had three. The Antelopes will host Sundown next Friday at 7:30 p.m. Smyer will be in Ropes at 7:30 p.m.
