Smyer Lady Cats take down Lady Eagles in two overtimes

The Smyer Lady Cats took on the Ropes Lady Eagles this past Friday night during district play where the Lady Cats won 6459.

In the first quarter, Smyer was in the lead as they outscored Ropes 16-14 going into the second quarter of the game.

In the second quarter it was more of the same story for the Lady Cats as they outscored the Lady Eagles once more, this time 12-8, extending their lead to 28-22 going into the halftime break.

Leading the Smyer Lady Cats in scoring at the halftime break was Maegan Smith with 14 points at the half.

For the Lady Eagles the leading scorer at the half was Brooklyn Hogg with seven points, six of them from long-range.

Out of the halftime break, Ropes came out on fire as they outscored Smyer 17-8 to take the lead and make the score 39-36 in a close game going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter Smyer did just enough to get back into the game and tie it at the very end with the score sitting at 49-49 to make the game go into overtime.

In the first overtime it was a back and forth game with the teams going blow for blow, so much so that the team’s had to go into a second overtime with the scores sitting at 57-57.

The game came to a final end when Smyer was able to outscore Ropes 7-2 to take the big district win over the Lady Eagles.

Smith led the Smyer Lady Cats in scoring with 32 on the night. Rylee Riedel had another 16 points, Kira Posadas had 11 points, Jada Hernandez and Kaia Brandon both had two points a piece and Ellie Nelson had one point in the team’s win.

For the Ropes Lady Eagles their leading scorer was Madi Reyna with 26 points on the night. Hogg had another 15 points, Delyla Stark had seven points, Bailey Turner had five points, Rylie Lester had four points and Annabelle Falls finished with two points.

The Smyer Lady Cats progress to 19-6 on the season and go up to 3-3 in district play sitting in third place of the district. The Lady Cats next game is against the Plains Cowgirls this Friday on the road at 6:15 p.m.

On the Ropes Lady Eagles schedule they fall to 18-9 on the season and go down to 4-2 in district play sitting in second place in the district. The Lady Eagles next game in district play is against the Sundown Roughettes on the road at 6:15 p.m.
