Loboettes drop district game against Cooper Liberty

The Levelland Loboettes took their first district loss in five years with a road loss to the Lubbock Cooper Liberty Lady Pirates 37-33.

The start of the game had Levelland take three-point lead early with the score sitting at 1310 going into the second quarter of the game.

The second quarter was a tough one for the Loboettes as they had a hard time stopping the Lubbock Cooper Liberty offense as they scored 11 points while being held to just two points of their own making the score 16-15 with the Loboettes trailing going into the halftime break.

Leading Levelland in scoring at the halftime break was Presley Smith with seven points, all of them in the first quarter.

Coming out of the break Levelland was able to score seven points but was still having a hard time slowing down the Lady Pirates as they scored another 11 points to make the score 27-22 going into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter it was a close game as the Loboettes were able to outscore them 11-10, but it was too late as they Lady Pirates held onto the lead to give Levelland their first district loss since the 2019-2020 season.

Presley Smith led the Loboettes in scoring on the night with 15 points, five points coming from free throws. Emery Smith had another seven points, Sydnii Joyce and Kaylee Penner both finished with four points and Leilani Sanchez finished with three points on the game.

Levelland led the game in rebounding with 30 while the Lubbock Cooper Liberty Lady Pirates had 24. The Loboettes went neutral in the turnover category with both teams having 10 steals as well as the blocking category as both teams had two blocks.

Levelland shot the ball for 26% from the field while going for 17% from long-range, they also shot for 57% from the free-throw line during their contest.

Levelland falls to 19-5 on the season as they go down to 2-1 in district play. The Loboettes will play against the Snyder Lady Tigers this Friday on the road at 6:15 p.m. for district play.
