The Levelland Lobos facedoff against the Big Spring Steers this past Tuesday night at home for their second district game of the season where they won 59-39.
The start of the game was great for the Lobos as they looked to bounce back after their district opener to the Lubbock Liberty Cooper Patriots this past Friday on the road.
Levelland took a good lead as they outscored the Steers 13-5, giving them a eight-point lead going into the second quarter.
The second quarter was different that what we saw in the first though as the Steers were able to go on a run and catch up to the Lobos and outscore them 15-12, making the score 25-20 going into the halftime break.
Out of the break though it was back to Levelland taking the reigns as they outscored Big Spring 17-9 extending their lead to 42-29 going into the fourth quarter.
For the final quarter of play it was more of the same story as Levelland didn’t let off the gas to outscore them 17-10 in the fourth quarter and take their first district win of the season.
Graham Gibbs led the team in scoring for Levelland with 15 points, all from behind the arch. Eryk Jones had another 12 points, Sean Landrum had nine, Anthony Gonzalez, Nehemiah Sanchez and Ethan Salazar all had six points a piece and Bryson Golighty finished with five points in the team’s win.
Levelland shot the ball for 43% from the field while going 41% from long range shots. The Lobos shot for 63% from the freethrow line as well. The Levelland Lobos progress to 13-14 on the season as they break even in district play with a 1-1 record.
The Lobos will play against the Lake View Chiefs this Tuesday on the road at 7:30 p.m. after going against the Snyder Tigers this Friday on the road.
