The Levelland Lobos took on the #3 Estacado Matadors this past Friday night on the road where the Lobos lost 81-56.
The start of the game the Lobos were keeping it close as they were barely outscored in the first quarter 24-19, in a high scoring game.
The second quarter was Levelland though as they were able to cut into the Matador lead as they outscored Estacado 10-8, making the score 37-29, Estacado leading.
Coming out of the halftime break, Levelland had a hard time the rest of the game as they were outscored in the third quarter 2311 and outdone in the fourth quarter 21-16 to lose their district game 81-56.
Levelland’s leading scorer on the night was Eryk Jones with 19 points. Anthony Gonzalez had another 11 points, Sean Landrum, Graham Gibbs and Nehemiah Sanchez all had six points a piece, Bryson Golightly had four points and both Ethan Salazar and Eli Randol finished with two points a piece.
Levelland shot the ball well going for 37% from the field while going for 28% from long-range shots. The Lobos also shot the ball for 56% from the free-throw line.
The Lobos were outrebounded by the Matadors 40-to-28 on the day and turned the ball over 16 times throughout the night while forcing nine turnovers of their own.
The Levelland Lobos progress to 14-16 on the season and go down to 2-3 in district play, sitting in fourth place of the district. The Lobos next game of district play is against the Big Spring Steers this Friday on the road at 7:30 p.m. after going against the Lubbock Cooper Liberty Patriots this past Tuesday at home.
