MANUELA “NELLIE” GOMEZ Services for Manuela “Nellie” Gomez of Levelland, were held Tuesday, May 9, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Father Jonathan Phillips officiated.
Manuela was born to Fidel Sr. and Guadalupe Maria Ruiz on April 9, 1935, in Robstown, Texas.
She married Enrique Gomez Sr. on July 26, 1990, and had five children. Manuela was a certified nurses aide for over 30 years at the Levelland Clinic and Cook Memorial Hospital. She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and belonged to the Guadalupana Ladies Organization. Her hobbies were cooking for her family, fishing, camping, playing slots, sewing and crafting. She was witty and loved her pets, gardening, and watching Wheel of Fortune and The Price Is Right. She was proceeded in death by her parents Fidel Sr. and Guadalupe Maria Ruiz, two sons Edward Paz Sr. and Gerald Paz, three brothers Fidel Ruiz Jr., Manuel Ruiz and Jesus Ruiz. She is survived by her spouse of 33 years Enrique Gomez Sr. of Levelland, Texas, two daughters Rosa (John Joe) Mendez and Soyla (David) Hernandez both of Levelland, one son Lino Paz Jr. of Levelland, four sisters Maria Mendez, Irma Martinez and Petra Rodriguez all of Levelland, and Margarita Chavarria of Slaton, Texas, grandchildren, Edward Paz Jr. Yvonne Smith, Marissa Winfield, Giovanni Mendez, Yvette Paz, Brandon Paz, Christopher Paz, Jody Paz, Paige Paz, Alyssa Crawford and 19 great grandchildren.
Manuela was a wonderful sister, spouse, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Interment followed at the City of Levelland Cemetery in Levelland, Texas under the directon of Head Duarte Funeral Home.
