The Levelland Loboettes took on the Sweetwater Lady Mustangs this past Friday at home for UIL Softball District play where the Loboettes won in a close one 9-8.
Sweetwater was able to get on the board in the top of the first inning after the batter hit a single and one of Levelland’s players committed an error to let the Lady Mustangs get an early 2-0 lead.
The Loboettes answered right back as Aubriana Rivas hit a home run to get her and Angelica Gonzalez home to tie the game at two a piece.
Levelland was able to take the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Gonzalez hit a single off of a fly ball to center field and Adrianna Castellano walked, each scoring one run to make the score 4-2.
In the top of the fourth inning, Sweetwater was able to tie the game once more after one batter hit a single and another batter hit a double to send in two runners to make the score 4-4.
The Loboettes retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Castellano hit a sacrifice ball to center field to send in Danica Rivera for the run to make the score 5-4, Levelland leading.
Sweetwater once again took the lead in the top of the sixth inning after the batter from the Lady Mustangs hit a single off of a ground ball to left field to send in two runners to make the score 6-5, Sweetwater leading.
The game was flipped on its head after Levelland was able to retake the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Castellano hit a hard ground ball and reached on an error by the shortstop while Saydi Mendez and Gonzalez each scored. In the same inning Madison Seat singled on a hard ground ball to center field to send Castellano in to make the score 8-6, Levelland leading.
Sweetwater tied the game at eight after their batter hit a double off of a fly ball to right field to get two of their runners in.
The final blow came from Rivas who hit a sacrifice fly to center field, but would get Mendez into home to make the final score 9-8, all Levelland.
Levelland scored nine runs on 13 hits for the team. The Loboettes committed just one error in the game while leaving 12 runners on base.
Rivas threw all seven innings while giving up eight runs (six earned) on 13 hits, five walks and six strikeouts.
The Loboettes progress to 13-12 on the season while going up to 5-1 in district play tying Snyder at first place.
The Levelland Loboettes played against Estacado this past Tuesday for their second matchup of the year as the visiting team at 5 p.m.
