Roughettes move on to Regional Quarterfinals

The Sundown Roughettes took on the Sunray Lady Cats this past Saturday in Plainview for their Area Matchup in UIL Softball Playoffs where the Roughettes won the second game and series 16-3 to move on. 

Sunray got all of their runs at the start of the game in the top of the first inning after an error by the Roughettes scored one run and a home run hit into left field sent in another two runners to make the score 3-0 early for Sunray. 

In the bottom of the first inning Sundown was able to take the lead after Breigh Gregory tripled on a line drive to left field, scoring one run, Destiny Garza singled on a line drive to left field, scoring one run, Camry Jourden doubled on a fly ball to center field, scoring one run, Araceli Ibarra singled on a ground ball to right field, scoring one run, Paola Huerta singled on a pop fly to right field, scoring one run, Emry Jourden doubled on a line drive to center field, scoring one run and Brynly Gregory tripled on a hard
ground ball to center field, scoring two runs to make the score 8-3. 

The Roughettes added onto their lead in the bottom of the second after Ericka Posadas grounded into a fielder’s choice, making the score 10-3. 

Sundown kept pouring it on in the bottom of the third inning after Breigh Gregory hit a sacrifice fly to left field to send in another runner and Garza doubled on a line drive to right field, scoring another run making the score 12-3.

The Roughettes final runs of the game came in the bottom of the fourth inning after Emry Jourden tripled on a hard ground ball to right field, scoring two runs, Brynly Gregory doubled on a line drive to right field, scoring one run and Garza singled on a line drive to right field, scoring the final run of the game. 

Breigh Gregory earned the win for the Roughettes as she gave up three hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking one in the game. 

Sundown tallied up 16 hits throughout the game. Breigh Gregory, Brynly Gregory, Garza and Jourden each collected three hits. 

Gregory and Jourden were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in three runs. The team turned in one
double play in the game. 

The Roughettes progress to 30-4-1 on the season as they are Bi-District and Area Champions. 

Sundown will move onto the Regional Quarterfinals to take on the Forsan Lady Buffs with the time and place TBD at the time of
this writing.
