Whiteface Lady Lopes are District Champs

    The Whiteface Lady Lopes came away with a sixth straight district championship with a 5822 District 5-2A high school girls’ basketball home win over the Plains Cowgirls last Friday.

    The Lady Lopes led 5-4 just two minutes into the game, then took off on an 11-point run before finishing the quarter up 23-8.

    The Whiteface defense was present as well. The Lady Lopes put up 15 in the second quarter against a single free throw from Plains.

    Plains made some adjustments at half-time, but it only made the scoring less lopsided as Whiteface extended the lead to 53-18.

    Lainey Sanders led all scorers with 19 points. Emily Blankenship had 10. Hannah Blankenship had nine. Tymmyah Olenga had eight. Kambry Sanders and Jaedyn Rector had six each.

    The Lady Lopes will face Iraan in Andrews on Monday in the bi-district playoff round. Game time is 6 p.m.
