Whitharral Panthers defeat Throckmorton Greyhounds

The Whitharral Panthers improved to 4-1 with a 58-12 win over the Throckmorton Greyhounds last Friday in UIL Class 1A 6-man football action in Guthrie.

The Panthers’ last score invoked the 45-point rule, which in 6-man football states that whenever one team is ahead by 45 points or more at or after halftime, the game is called.

Whitharral led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter on a 12yard run by Jack Griffin and a goal line run by Brolin Kennedy. Throckmorton scored 12 in the second quarter, but Whitharral’s Nate Sansom put up 14 on a 42yard touchdown reception and a 50-yard touchdown run.

Griffin went 1-for-2 on twopoint kicks in both the first and second quarters. The second half was all Whitharral. Dawson Rodgers scored from the two-yard line while Rayden Potter had a 56yard and a 25-yard pass reception in the third quarter. Griffin’s kicking game was perfect in period for a 52-12 lead.

The game ended early with a 79-yard fourth quarter touchdown pass from Griffin to Sansom to invoke the 45-point rule with a 5812 score.

Griffin had five carries for 31 yards and a touchdown. Landon Lee had a single seven-yard carry. Rodgers have five yards and a touchdown on two carries. Brent Robinson had two carries for four yards and Kennedy had s single touchdown carry that needed only inches.

Griffin went 8-for-15 passing for 264 yards, four touchdowns and an interception. Kennedy went 1-for-3 for 33 yards.

Sansom had two catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Potter had two catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Rodgers had two catches for 41 yards. Robinson had two catches for 40 yards. Kennedy had one 14-yard catch.

Sansom had a 50-yard touchdown return and Potter had a five-yard return.

Potter had 11 tackles and an interception. Rodgers had 10. Griffin had 7 ½. Kennedy had 6 ½. Sansom had six. Carson Bates had 3 ½. Robinson had three. Tucker Parkinson had 2 ½. Copper Popelka had two.

The Panthers travel to Nazareth next Friday at 7:30 p.m. They defeated Nazareth 54-24 in Whitharral last season. The Swifts are currently 2-3 and coming off a 44-39 road loss to the O’Donnell Eagles.
