The Whiteface Antelopes took on the Jayton Jaybirds this past Friday for their area matchup in basketball playoffs where the team lost 58-38.
The first quarter of the game started off with Whiteface keeping the game close as they were outscored 14-12. The Antelopes couldn’t be stopped from going inside the paint as they had eight of their 12 points come from underneath the basket.
For the second quarter of the game the Antelopes were able to get eight points to fall for them before the halftime break while they held the Jaybird to only six points tying the game at 20 points.
The score at the halftime break was Whiteface tied with Jayton 20-20.
Leading the Antelopes in scoring at the half was three players in Ethan Kauffman, Jeremias Chavez and Cesar Chavez who each had five points at the half.
Going into the third quarter of the game Whiteface would come out flat footed as they were only able to get four points to fall for them in the third while they allowed Jayton to get 15 points before the fourth quarter of the game.
For the final quarter of the game it would be all Jayton as they outscored Whiteface 23-14 at the end to take the playoff win away from the Antelopes.
Jeremias Chavez led the team in scoring on the night with 13 points, 12 of his points coming from down low.
Kauffman finished with 11 points, Auscar Gandara had another six, Cesar Chavez had five, Cayden Timmons had two and Noah Rendon had one in the teams loss.
Whiteface finished off their season as Bi-District Champs under Head Basketball Coach Brandon Flores.
