The Whiteface Antelopes hosted the Morton Indians in district play last Tuesday night where they lost in a close buzzerbeater 43-42.
The start of the game had the Indians taking the four-point lead with the score sitting at 12-8, going into the second quarter.
The second quarter though had Whiteface outscoring Morton 12-10 to cut into their lead to make the score 22-20, going into the halftime break.
Leading the Antelopes in scoring at the half was Jeremiah Rendon with eight points, all of them from the first quarter.
For the Morton Indians their leading scorer at the half was Jaeden Alvarado with eight points of his own, six of them from down low in the paint.
Out of the halftime break, both team’s defense weren’t giving up a whole lot as Whiteface was able to score 11 points, winning the quarter while holding Morton to 10 points, making the score 32-31, Morton still leading.
The final quarter of the game was a back and forth battle with it coming down to the last shot as the game winning shot was a putback from Alvarado from under the basket to take the onepoint victory to give Morton the big district win.
Whiteface had two leading scorers on the night with both Ethan Kauffman and Cesar Chavez both finishing with 10 points on the night. Both Isaak Soliz and Rendon finished with eight points a piece and Ivaniel Gandara had six points in the team’s loss.
For the Morton Indians the leading scorer was Alvarado with 20 points on the night. Cade Lyon finished with eight points, E.J. Rivas had six points, Brayden Villarreal had four points, Lane Lyon had three points and A.J. Mendoza finished with two points.
The Whiteface Antelopes fall to 2-1 on the season while going down to 3-3 in district play. The Antelopes next game is against the Ropes Eagles this Friday at home at 7:30 p.m. after their rematch against the Seagraves Eagles this Tuesday on the road.
For the Morton Indians the progress to 7-8 on the season and go up to 4-2 in district play. The Indians next game is against the Smyer Bobcats at home at 7:30 p.m. this Friday after they played against the Ropes Eagles this Tuesday on the road.
