Antelopes season comes to end, in Slaton

The Whiteface Antelopes went against the Borden County Coyotes in the Area Round of the High School Football 6-man 1A D1 where they lost 65-50, at Slaton.

Whiteface started off the game on offense where the team went three and out on the first drive.

From there defensively they were able to force a troubled pass from the Borden County quarterback which resulted in a interception from Whiteface athlete Jeremias Chavez.

Although it was a huge defensive play Borden County would stop the offense once again and finally put the first points up on the board off of a 21yard pass.

They went up early in the game 8-0 and didn’t let up as after that drive Borden County scored again through the air, this time from 25 yards out.

In just a blink of an eye the Antelopes were trailing 16-0 after two made kicks from they Coyotes kicker in the first quarter.

In the second quarter Borden pour it on as they earned themselves another touchdown on the night this time from one yard out on the ground. With another made kick the score was 24-0 at the start of the second quarter.

Whiteface never gave up though as they were able to get their first points of the game from Ethan Kauffman from 34 yards out on the ground. Whiteface would then make their kick to shorten the Coyotes lead 24-8.

Borden County would score another touchdown shortly after Whiteface to extend their lead 308 from another passing touchdown.

Kauffman again was the saving grace for the Antelopes as he would break off another run, this time from 14 yards out to help cut the lead 30-14 after the team missed their kick.

The Coyotes offense could not be stopped though, as they would break off a big pass connecting from 57 yards out to get them another touchdown and making the score 38-14 after another made kick.

Before the game could go into the halftime break, Kauffman would once again break off a huge 63-yard run to end the half and giving the Antelopes some momentum going into the break with a score of 38-20 with the Coyotes leading.

At the start of the third quarter it would be Borden County to score once again through the air from 25 yards out and making their kick to make the score 46-20.

Whiteface would be able to answer back as Kauffman would be able to get another huge run in the game to get the Antelopes another touchdown. He went the distance from 63 yards out and another made kick made the score 46-28.

The Coyotes would not let up, they would score again from 38 yard out through the air and would miss their kick making the score 52-28.

The Antelopes had an answer for the Coyote defense as they would get another touchdown this time through the air from Jermiah Rendon to Jeremias Chavez from 14 yards out. The were able to cut the score down to 52-34.

Whiteface was able to cause a mistake on defense and they would capatalize on it as Kauffman would punch it in once more from 15 yards out and a made kick to put the score 52-42.

At the end of the third quarter it was Whiteface that would be able to find their feet and get a few stops to get them in a close game.

At the start of the fourth quarter the Coyotes would finally end their scoring drought as they would bust off another pass from 43 yards out and earn themselves another touchdown and make the game 58-42.

Whiteface would put together a productive drive as once again, Kauffman would punch it in from one-yard out and another made PAT to get the Antelopes within a one score game with a score of 58-50.

Borden County would strike the final blow and end the game with another touchdown from a lone drive and would put the game out of reach with the final score being 65-50.

Whiteface’s offense had a good game as they were able to get a total of 398 yards of offense while the defense would only allow 316 yards of offense from the Coyotes.

The leading rusher on the game for the Antelopes was Ethan Kauffman as he would have 340 rushing yards with six touchdowns and no fumbles on the night.

The passing leaders on the game were Jermiah Rendon who had two passes that went for 29 yards and one touchdown on the night with no interceptions. Isaak Soliz was able to complete four passes for 28 yards as well for the teams passing game.

The receiving leader on the game was Julio Brunda who had three catches for 35 yards. Jeremias Chavez had two catches for 18 yards and a touchdown and Noah Rendon had one catch for four yards.

Defensively it was Chavez who led the team in tackles with four on the night and one interception.

Auscar Gundara had two tackles, Noah Rendon had two tackles and one sack, Ethan Kauffman was able to get two tackles, Jermiah Rendon had another two, Jaxon Heflin had one and Brunda had another.

The Whiteface Antelopes ended their season with a overall record of 11-1 winning District and Bi-District Championships along the way.
