The Whiteface Antelopes took on the Ropes Eagles at home this past Friday night for district play where they won 54-40.
At the start of the game, it was a close game as the Antelopes outscored the Eagles 13-10, taking a narrow lead going into the second quarter.
For the second quarter of the game, Whiteface was able to take a big lead after their defense was able to force turnovers and win the quarter 17-9, extending their lead to 30-19 at the halftime break.
Leading the Antelopes in scoring at the halftime break were both Ethan Kauffman and Jeremiah Rendon with eight points a piece.
For the Ropes Eagles the leading scorer was Brennan Bearden with seven points.
Out of the break, Ropes was able to cut into the Antelope lead as they outscored Whiteface 9-6, making the score 36-27, going into the fourth quarter.
Although it was a great effort from the Eagles, the Antelope offense was too much as they were able to go 11-14 from the free-throw line to put the game away in the final quarter, giving them the big district win.
Leading the Antelopes in scoring on the night was Rendon with 24 points. Kauffman and Isaak Soliz both finished with nine points a piece, Cesar Chavez had five points, Auscar Gandara had four and Ivaniel Gandara finished with three points.
For the Ropes Eagles the leading scorer was Kade Franklin with 13 points. Reese Williams had eight points, Bearden had seven, both Bode Franklin and Branson Simental finished with five points a piece and Cutter Stumbo had two points.
The Whiteface Antelopes progress to 4-4 in district play. The Antelopes next game of district play is against the Plains Cowboys this Friday at home at 7:30 p.m. after going against the Smyer Bobcats this past Tuesday on the road.
For the Ropes Eagles they progress to 5-2 in district play. The Eagles next game is against the Smyer Bobcats next Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. on the road after going against the Seagraves Eagles this past Tuesday at home.
