Anton falls to Hart on Homecoming, 27-20

The Anton Bulldogs had their homecoming game this past Friday and last non-district game of the season against the 2-3 Hart Longhorns where they fell in a nail-bitter losing 27-20.

The Bulldogs coached by Brian Robinson did well in their game as they had the lead the majority of the game. The team just didn’t have enough in the tank as they let go of the lead in the last minute of the fourth quarter of the game due to their exhaustion in the game.

In the final minutes of the game it was all tied up 20-20 with just a couple of minutes on the clock. The Longhorns offense was just too much for the Bulldogs to handle as they scored with less than a minute remaining in the game and left little to no time on the clock for the Bulldogs to respond. There was only 36 seconds left on the clock with the Anton offense back on the field but with such little time on the clock there was only so much the team could do.

Although it was a close game for the team it was another amazing game from Jose Avalos racking up another two touchdowns on the night. He broke off a huge run in the middle of the third quarter that put the Bulldogs up in the game. He was a force to be reckoned with on the defensive side of the ball as well as the Longhorns didnt have an answer for him as he had his way with the opposing teams offense throughout the game. Unfortunately for Anton he would be taken out of the game later on due to a big hit he took on with another Hart defender during the game.

Another key performer that helped the team out offensively was Gavin Martinez as he was able to get the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter due to his great quickness and blazing speed to outrun the Hart defense.

It was a very back and forth game when it came to the end but Anton played very well and making the Hart Longhorns play until the very end on their homecoming night. Freshman Shooter Campos was playing well throughout the game on both sides of the ball as he was able to be noticed on the team. He was making good plays on the ground for the offense and was able to stretch out the field with his passing ability. And defensively he was making athletic plays to come up big and knock away passes as he was able to almost get an interception late in the game.

There are many stars on the field for the Bulldogs and the will need to step up as they have a tough district schedule coming up for the Bulldogs as they have to face teams such as Springlake-Earth, Lorenzo, Petersburg, and Kress these last few games of the season.

The Bulldogs fell to a solid team losing and making their record 0-6 on the season. The Bulldogs will start district play this upcoming Friday against Kress where the Kress Kangaroos are going into the game 1-5 on the season. The game will be an away game for the Bulldogs as they will travel to Kress; the game will start at 7:30 p.m.
