Five area teams competed in this past UIL Cross Country District 5-2A Meet in Yoakum County.
Morton, Ropes, Smyer, Whiteface and Sundown had runners compete in the meet.
On the boys side of the three mile varsity run the highest scorer out of all the team’s was Micah Zapata from Smyer with a time of 16:26.42. The Smyer Bobcats finished in second place of the run with Austin Martinez finishing in fourth place, Ismael Pizano finishing in fifth place, Jose Bueno finishing in 26th, Ryder Stracener finishing in 32nd and Nick Baker finishing in 34th.
Sundown finished in third place out of the seven total teams with their top runner being Lincoln Keesler finishing in ninth place with a time of 17:39.68. Rolando Rivera finished in 10th place, Jaydith Shelton finished in 17th place, Daniel Mauldin finished in 19th place, Corey Goodman finished in 22nd place, Sebastian Posadas finished in 24th place and J.R. Rodriguez finished in 29th place.
Ropes finished in fourth place in the contest with their top runner being Chase Schumm with a time of 17:18.88 finishing in sixth place. Gabe Sanchez finished in 14th place, Bryce Hiler finished in 15th place, Brayden Saldivar finished in 27th place, Malikai Mendez finished in 28th place, Cayden Martinez finished in 30th place and Armando Melton finished in 26th place.
Other area runners finished in order: Samuel Chavez from Morton in 11th place, Braxton Davidson from Whiteface finished in 20th place, Josh Perez from Whiteface finished in 25th place, Jonathan Macias from Whiteface finished in 31st place and Bhrett Driver from Whiteface finished in 33rd place.
On the girls side of the competition for the two mile run Sundown as a team finished in first place, Whiteface finished in second place, Smyer finished in third and Morton finished in fourth.
For the Sundown girls the best runner was Kaytlin Clausen who finished in first place with a time of 12:41.47. Addilyn Hord finished in fifth place, Kassady Rodgers finished in sixth place, Julia Posadas finished in seventh place, Sarah Posadas finished in 11th place, Avy McGlasson finished in 12th place and Maddy Medrano finished in 15th place.
For the Whiteface girls the best runner out of the group was Lainey Sanders who finished in second place with a time of 12:55.47. Anais Soliz finished in third place, Emily Blankenship in fourth place, Kambry Sanders finished in ninth place, Hannah Blankenship finished in 14th place, Kaylee Gonzalez finished in 16th place and Jaedyn Rector finished in 19th place.
For the Smyer Lady Cats their best runner of the day was Skylar Wiseman finished in eighth place with a time of 13:21.06. Berenicce Lara finished in 13th place, Adi Vega finished in 22nd place, Kira Posadas finished in 25th place and Abbi Hood finished in 27th place.
For the Morton Maidens their best runner was Natalie Ramirez who finished in 18th place with a time of 14:41.11. J’Lynn Marquez finished in 21st place, Maya Huckabee finished in 23rd place, Addison Enriquez finished in 24th place, Addysyn Sabala finished in 28th place, Eliberta Boylen finished in 36th place and Dariana Molinar finished in 38th place.
The Ropes Lady Eagles best runner of the contest was Dacey Feldman with a time of 15:43.70 in 26th place. Macie Lehnen finished in 32nd place, Natalie Macias finished in 37th place and Cali Clemons finished in 39th place.
