The Smyer Bobcats high school boys’ basketball team went 1-2 in the Food King Smyer Invitational Tournament from December 7-9, winning the first game, then dropping the second and the third place game.
Brayden Wade was selected to the all-tournament team.
Smyer 51, Amherst 22
The Bobcats opened the tournament with a 51-22 win over Amherst. Smyer led 4-3 at the end of the first quarter, but 29-9 at halftime. The Bobcats were up 4615 by the end of the third quarter.
Rylan Smith had 14 points. Austin Martinez had nine. Ryann Gutierrez had eight. Micah Zapata and Mason Medart had six. Gio Garcia and Wade had three each. Skyler Pond had two.
Friona 58, Smyer 49
The Bobcats fell to Friona 58--49 on Friday after leading most of the game. Smyer was up 12-9 in the first quarter, 27-21 at halftime but trailed 33-30 at the end of the third quarter.
Zapata had 12 points. Gutierrez and Medart had eight each. Wade had seven. Martinez had six. Smith had five. Garcia had three.
Lubbock Christian School 62, Smyer 33
The Bobcats fell behind early in a 62-33 loss to Lubbock Chrisitan High School in the third place game. They trailed 19-10 at the end of the first quarter and 2820 at halftime. Lubbock Cristian was up 48-30 at the end of the third period.
Smith had 11 points. Wade had seven. Gutierrez had five. Garcia had four. Zapata had three. Martinez had two. Medart had one.
The Bobcats will host Lockney on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
