Eagles take down Roughnecks, 16-1

The Ropes Eagles hosted the Sundown Roughnecks for a district baseball matchup this past Tuesday night, resulting in the Eagles run ruling the Roughnecks 16-1 in four innings.

Ropes held a 2-1 lead after the first inning before scoring 14 answered runs to ultimately earn the win. In the team stats, the Eagles bested Sundown 11-2 in hits, 4-2 in walks and 2-7 in errors committed.

Standouts at the plate for the Eagles included third baseman Kade Franklin going 2/3 with four runs-batted- in, three runs scored and a home run, catcher Zach Ramirez going 2/3 with four RBI’s, and left fielder Maddux Sierra going 2/4 with three RBI’s, two runs scored and a double.

Others included shortstop Ryland Kieth going 1/1 with four runs scored and three walks, center fielder Jaivyth Cruz going 1/3 with two runs scored and a stolen base, designated hitter Branson Simental going ½ with a run scored and a walk, second baseman Brayden Hogg going 1/3 with a run scored and right fielder Briggs Bourne going 1/3 with a run scored.

Cutter Stumbo handled all the Eagles’ duties on the mound, pitching four innings and holding Sundown to zero earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out six batters.

The win improves the Eagles to 17-4 overall and 7-0 in district play, which ties them for first in the 2A District 4 baseball standings.

Meanwhile, the loss drops the Roughnecks to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in district play, which ties them for eighth in the 2A District 4 baseball standings.

Standouts at the plate for Sundown included shortstop Ryland Baldwin going ½ with a run scored, first baseman Jaxon Reynolds going ½, and center fielder Braiden Lara and third baseman Andrew Rodriguez both drawing a walk apiece.

On the mound for the Roughnecks, Joey Lopez pitched three innings and surrendered eight earned runs on 10 hits and three walks, and Marco Landa also made an appearance, surrendering one earned run on a hit and a walk.

“We competed well and have improved significantly over the last couple weeks,” Sundown Head Baseball Coach Matthew Schovajsa said. “We need to clean up the routine plays to give ourselves a shot in games.”

The two teams are right back in play against each other this weekend for the second game of the series with Sundown hosting now.
