Falls, Burriss & Robinson headed to State

The Sundown Roughettes, Ropes Lady Eagles, Smyer Lady Cats and Whiteface Lady Lopes all competed at the Girls 2A Region 1 Track & Field Championships this past Friday and Saturday at West Texas A&M University, resulting in several athletes punching their ticket to State.

To qualify for the State Championships, the competitor or relay had to place top two in the meet, but third place had a chance based on the marks of the other three regions. Eight qualifiers come from the top two of each region, and the ninth and final qualifier is the in dividual/relay with the best mark in that event.

Adalyn Falls of Ropes was able to qualify in both hurdle events. In the 300-meter hurdles, Falls was the Regional Champion with a time of 44.98, and in the 100-meter hurdles, she was the runner-up with a time of 15.10. Also, in the 300 hurdles, Lainey Sanders (Whiteface) placed seventh with a time of 50.58.

In the triple jump, Ashtyn Burriss (Smyer) was the Regional Champion with a jump of 38’-11.25”, and in the 200-meter dash, Elexis Robinson (Sundown) was the runner-up with a time of 25.63.

In the 400-meter dash, Kinley Nale (Ropes) placed fourth with a time of 1:00.90.

In the 800-meter run, Avy McGlasson (Sundown) placed fifth with a time of 2:28.63 and Addilyn Hord (Sundown) placed 15th with a time of 2:37.40.

In the 1,600-meter run, Kaytlin Clausen (Sundown) placed sixth with a time of 5:47.16. In the 3,200-meter run, Clausen placed fifth with a time of 12:34.06 and Rhaelyn Bracey (Whiteface) placed 11th with a time of 13:20.79.

In the high jump, Ellie Nelson (Smyer) placed 10th with a jump of 4’-8”, Jada Hernandez (Smyer) placed 11th with a jump of 4’-6” and Brylee Lauderdale (Ropes) placed 14th with a jump of 4’-6”.

In the pole vault, Kira Posadas (Smyer) placed seventh with a vault of 9’, Aynika Riley (Ropes) placed ninth with a vault of 9’ and Mikah Woodley (Ropes) placed 14th with a vault of 8’.

In the long jump, Robinson placed seventh with a jump of 15’-11.50” and Burriss placed ninth with a jump of 15’-10.50”.

In the discus, Zailyn Wylie (Ropes) placed fourth with a throw of 109’-7”, Addison Bridges (Sundown) placed 13th with a throw of 97’ and Dhaya Marinelarena (Sundown) placed 14th with a throw of 76’-11”.

In the 4x100-meter relay, the Roughettes team of Bethany Honesto, Emry Jourden, Camry Jourden and Robinson placed sixth with a time of 50.63. The Lady Cats team of Hernandez, Khloe Kimball-Morgan, Burriss and Posadas placed seventh with a time of 50.83.

In the 4x200-meter relay, the Roughettes team of Breigh Gregory, Camry Jourden, Karter Hord and Robinson placed fourth with a time of 1:47.32. The Lady Cats team of Hernandez, Khloe Kimball-Morgan, Burriss and Posadas placed eighth with a time of 1:49.68.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the Lady Eagles team of Annabelle Falls, Kinley Nale, Lila Forsythe and Adalyn Falls placed fourth with a time of 4:06.84. The Roughettes team of Sara Posadas, Gregory, Hord and McGlasson placed seventh with a time of 4:10.66.

All the qualifiers will compete next at the 2A State Championships from May 14-16 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin.
