Igo finishes third at 2A Golf State

The Sundown Roughnecks competed at the 2A Boys Golf State Championship Tournament this past Monday and Tuesday at the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin, resulting in a third-place effort by Isaiah Igo and a top 10 team finish by the Roughnecks.

Junior Isaiah Igo shot a 67 in round one and a 69 in round two for a total score of 136, which initially tied him for runner up with Cooper Nichols of Farwell. Igo and Nichols would have a play off to determine the spot, which Nichols won to slot Igo into third.

Isaiah was followed closely by freshman Drew Igo, who shot a 76 in round one and a 75 in round two for a total score of 151, which was good for 16th out of 72 competitors.

Other Roughnecks scores included junior Brock Bufe shooting a 180 to place 59th, freshman Axel Garcia shooting a 189 to place 64th and senior Landry Farrar shooting a 204 to place 69th.

As a team, the Roughnecks posted a total score of 656 to place eighth of 12 eligible teams, closing the season out strong.

“What a journey it was, I’m grateful for every moment watching these guys represent Sundown in such a classy way and compete at a high level,” Sundown Head Golf Coach Kyle Igo said. “Competing in the State Tournament for a third straight year, what an accomplishment. The whole team contributed and played really well, and I’m so proud of these young men.”

The boys closed the year out on a high note, and now their teammate Jayden Sandlin will look to do the same thing this Monday and Tuesday at the same place for the 2A Girls Golf State Championship Tournament.
