The Smyer Lady Cats high school girls’ basketball team went 1-2 with two tight losses in their home Food King Smyer Invitational Basketball Tournament from December 7-9. Maegan Smith was selected to the all-tournament team.
Smyer 68, Amherst 18
The Lady Cats opened the tournament on Thursday with a 68-18 win over Amherst. The Lady Cats led 13-4 at the end of the first quarter and 27-13 at halftime. Smyer was up 50-14 at the end of the third quarter.
Smith had 24 points. Dyamond Baker had 16. Rylee Riedel had 12. Vannah Jourdan had 10. Kira Posadas and Kaia Brandon had three each.
Southcrest 56, Smyer 45
On Friday, the Lady Cats fell behind late after Smith got her fifth foul and couldn’t make up the difference in a 56-45 loss to Southcrest Christian.
The score was tied at nine at the end of the first quarter. Southcrest led 24-20 at halftime and 36-31 at the end of the third quarter.
Riedel had 14 points. Smith had 12. Jourdan had eight. Posadas had seven and Baker had two.
Shallowater JV 50, Smyer 47
The Lady Cats found themselves in foul trouble again in the third place game. They were forced to play 4-on-5 for the last minute in a 50-47 loss.
Jourdan got her fifth foul with just seconds left in the third. Riedel came out in with just under two minutes left and Smith came out a minute later.
Smith had 18 points. Riedel had 10. Baker had eight. Brandon had six. Jourdan had four. Posadas had one.
The Lady Cats will host Lockney on Dec. 19 at 6:15 p.m.
