The Smyer Lady Cats took second at the Anton Classic High School Basketball Tournament last weekend, going 2-1 and falling to Ropes 58-22 in the final.
Smyer downed Petersburg 43-41 on Thursday and Anton 6122 on Friday.
Smyer’s Maegan Smith was also selected to the all-tournament team.
Smyer 43, Petersburg 41
The Lady Cats opened against Petersburg on Thursday. Smyer trailed 12-11 at the end of the first period and led 25-23 at halftime. The nip and tuck continued in the third with Petersburg eking out a 33-32 lead before falling in the fourth.
Vannah Jourdan had 18 points. Smith had nine. Dyamond Baker and Jada Hernandez had six each. Rylee Riedel and Kira Posadas had two each.
Smyer 61, Anton 22
On Friday, the Lady Cats made short work of the host Anton Lady Bulldogs. Smyer jumped out to a 16-5 lead in the first quarter and led 39-14 at halftime.
Smith had 20 points. Kaia Brandon had 10. Riedel had nine. Baker and Hernandez had eight each. Jourdan had six.
Miliana Castillo had 10 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs. Alyssa Mancias had seven. Sarah Carlisle and Mariah Miller had two each. Aspen Cooper had a single free throw.
Ropes 58, Smyer 24
The Lady Cats were able to stay with the Lady Eagles for a while. Smyer trailed 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and 20-12 at halftime.
The Lady Eagles went on a 23-2 run in the third quarter, however, that sealed Smyer’s fate.
Hernandez led the Lady Cats with seven points. Jourdan had five. Brandon had four. Posadas and Baker had three each. Riedel had two.
Campbell Latta led the Lady Eagles with 19 points. Aubrey Bandy had 11. Bree Stumbo and Madi Reyna had six each. Delyla Stark had five. Kandis Rodriguez, Paige Luning and Rylee McDaniel had three each. Lacy Bloskas had two.
The Lady Cats will be in their own tournament this weekend. Opponents and times will be announced.
