Lady Lopes take down Klondike

The Whiteface Lady Lopes took on the Klondike Lady Cougars in their 1A HS girls basketball regional quarterfinal match up where they won 50-22.

The first quarter of the game started off with the Lady Lopes taking a two point lead after they outscored Klondike 10-8. The Lady Lopes had eight of their points come from down low.

For the second quarter of the game Whiteface was able to get 12 more points to fall for them while they held the Lady Cougars to seven points at the end of the half. The Lady Lope defense was having a hard time stopping Klondike from shooting from long range as the Lady Cougars had nine of their 15 points come from deep range.

The score at the half was Whiteface leading 22-15.

Leading the Lady Lopes in scoring at the half was Jaedyn Rector as she had 10 points, all of them coming from underneath the basket.

Going into the third quarter of the game Whiteface would have their best defensive stand of the night as they allowed only two points in the third while getting 10 more to fall for them extending the team’s lead to 15 points going into the fourth quarter. The score at the end of the third was Whiteface leading 32-17.

For the final quarter of the game the Lady Lopes would have their best scoring output of the game as they had 18 points fall for them before the end of the game while they held the Klondike offense to five points.

Leading the Lady Lopes in scoring for the night was Emma Ayers as she finished with 16 points, 14 of them from down low.

Rector and Emily Blankenship both finished with 10 points a piece, Hannah Blankenship had six, Lainey Sanders and Kylie Deavors both had three points a piece and Tymmyah Olenga finished with two points in the teams win.

Whiteface Lady Lopes progress to 31-4 on the season and faced off against the Nazareth Lady Swifts this past Friday at the South Plains College Dome for their regional semi-finals matchup.
