Lady Panthers earn district win against Maidens

The Whitharral Lady Panthers took on the Morton Maidens on the road where they took the win 69-28.

The first quarter of the game was a slow one for the Maidens as they would struggle to get anything going against the Lady Panthers. The score at the end of the first quarter was Whitharral leading 12-2.

The second quarter Morton was able to put together a more productive quarter as they were able to get 13 to go for them. Unfortunately for them, the Lady Panthers were firing on all cylinders and were able to get another 22 to extend their lead.

Going into the halftime break Whitharral held the lead 34-15.

For the Maidens it would be Clarissa Holland that would lead the team in scoring with six points, all of them coming from the paint.

For Whitharral it would be Paige Smith who had 18 points with 12 of her points coming from beyond the arch.

Going into the second half of the game it was all Whitharral as they would outscore the Maidens 35-to-13 and take the huge lead to stay undefeated in district play.

The leading scorer for the Maidens was Holland who finished with eight on the night.

Both Aerieana Rodriguez and Alexiah Garza finished with six a piece, Jayden Keeling had five, Blaize Garza had two and Alison Yanez finished with one.

Smith would be the leading scorer for the Lady Panthers as she finished with 32 points on the night.

Madison Chavez had 11, Tyler Parkinson had 10, Rylee Kristner had seven, Trinity Coronado had six, Elizabeth Reyna had two and Avery McCain finished with one.

Whitharral progressed to 3-0 with their next games being in the Caprock tournament that the team is competing in over the next few days, Thursday through Saturday.

The Morton Maidens progressed to 1-2 in district play while their next game is against the O’Donnell Lady Eagles as the away team at 12:15 p.m.
