Levelland falls to Dalhart 41-31, at home

The Levelland Lobos played their last non-district game of the season against the Dalhart Wolves where they picked up their fourth loss of the season, losing 41-31 at home.

The first touchdown of the game would come off of a pass from Boston Winfield for 73 yards to Ricky Rodriguez where the team would miss the PAT and make the first score of the game 60, in the first quarter.

Dalhart would answer back scoring their touchdown off of a run after they put together a long and productive drive against the tough Lobo defense. They would then make the PAT after scoring which gained them the lead with a score of 7-6.

Levelland in the first half of the game looked unstoppable as they were able to score in just five plays due to great play calling from the coaching staff and great execution from the team. Another touchdown pass from Boston Winfield for 54 yards, this time from Gage Potter, where again the team would miss their PAT and they would make the score 12-7.

Everything for the Lobos looked good as the Dalhart Wolves were able to make a couple of key mistakes leading to Levelland scoring again this time from Kaden Brogden as he would be able to take it 57 yards to the house. In just a few mistakes and a few minutes the Lobos would extend their lead to 21-7.

Dalhart was able to put together a slow drive once again where they would eventually score making the score 23-13 after the team missed their PAT attempt.

The Lobos had all the momentum going into the halftime break and would look to build off of their momentum coming out of the break.

Out of the half Dalhart found a new gear as they were able to score in four plays covering 65 yards. Levelland was quick to respond as it only took them another two plays to score extend their lead 29-20 in the third quarter.

For the next few drives it was a defensive battle as both teams had to deal with three and outs for their offenses. With a few more mistakes from the Wolves they would take another safety with three minutes remaining left in the third quarter extending Levelland’s lead 31-27.

Unfortunately the Lobo offense would not be able to keep up with the wolves as quarterback Boston Winfield threw three interceptions on the night and that wouldn’t be enough to top the Wolves as they were able to keep scoring on the Levelland defense.

Although it was a tough loss for the Lobos, they were able to find a few good things to marvel about as it seemed although without the turnovers for the offense, the offense was able to click with each other and find a groove going throughout the game.

Winfield would end the game with 211 yards through the air with three touchdowns and three interceptions.

Levellands leading receiver was Gage Potter who caught seven catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns on the night. Ricky Rodriguez was able to have himself a good game as well as he had three catches for 82 yards and a touchdown.

The Lobo defense struggled to stop Dalhart as they let up 476 yards of total offense throughout the game. 277 yards were on the ground while the rest of the 122 yards were through the air.

Levelland put up a tough fight throughout the game against a very tough opponent in the Dalhart Wolves. Dalhart will move to 5-1 in the regular season while they start district play next week.

The Levelland Lobos will advance to 2-4 on the regular season as they will start District play next week against the Perryton Rangers as the away team. Perryton is 1-5 on the season as they head into district.
