The Levelland Loboettes took on the Brownwood Lady Lions this past Monday night in Colorado City for their Bi-District Round of playoffs where the Loboettes won 48-31.
The first quarter started off slow for both teams as neither offenses could find much to fall. The Loboettes did win the first quarter though outscoring Brownwood 9-3 taking a six-point lead going into the second quarter.
For the second quarter of play, Levelland was able to find their rythme as they scored another 17 points while their defense held the Lady Lions to just 10 points, making the score 26-13, heading into the halftime break.
Leading the Loboettes in scoring at the halftime break was Emery Smith with nine points, all of them from behind the arch.
The second half of the game got interesting for the Loboettes as they were able to force Brownwood to call a timeout with 5:56 left in the third quarter of the game after the defense was able to force turnovers and earn points off of them.
It was a clean third quarter with no stoppage and Levelland winning the quarter 14-5, making the score 40-18, heading into the final quarter of the game.
Although the Loboettes had the lead they were scared late in the game with Brownwood having a late comeback and outscoring the Loboettes 13-8. Although the Lady Lions had a big surge of offense hit it wasn’t enough as the Levelland defense held strong and won their Bi-District matchup on the road.
Leading the Loboettes in scoring were both Emery and Presley Smith with 14 points a piece. Mia Morin and Leilani Sanchez both had five points a piece, Kaylee Penner and Brooklyn Cornish had three points a piece and both Destynii Jones and Sydnii Joyce finished with two points a piece on the night.
Levelland shot the ball for 32% from the field while going 42% from behind the arch and 67% from the charity stripe going four-for-six at the line.
The Loboettes were outrebounded on the night by Brownwood 36-to-28, but Levelland was able to force more turnovers in the game getting 17 while only giving the ball up eight times throughout the night. Levelland had four blocks on the night to the Lady Lions one.
The Levelland Loboettes improve to 26-6 on the season as they get ready to take on the Decatur Lady Eagles this Thursday night at Stamford High School at 6 p.m.
