The Levelland Lobos hosted the Estacado Matadors this past Friday for Senior Night and UIL District Baseball play where the Lobos won 7-6 in 11 innings.
Estacado was the first team on the board in the top of the second inning after one batter hit a single and another hit a triple, each scoring one run making the score 2-0 early.
The Lobos responded as they had three runs go for them in the bottom of the second inning. Charlie Romo doubled, scoring one run and Noah Tienda singled, scoring two runs, making the new score 3-2, Levelland leading.
Levelland added another run in the bottom of the third inning after Tyler Pemberton hit a sacrifice fly to center field driving in Brayden Moore to make the score 4-2.
In the top of the fifth the Matadors were able to tie the game at four each as one batter hit a double and another hit a triple, each scoring a run and making the score 4-4.
The game was scoreless the rest of the game as they had to go into two overtimes before the scoring started back up.
Estacado had two runs off of two hits in the top of the ninth inning after one batter hit a triple and the other hit a single giving them the 6-4 lead.
Levelland wasn’t giving up though as they tied the game back up after Rance Massey hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run and Tienda singled on a hard ground ball to right field, scoring one run, giving the game more innings.
The final blow of the game came from a sacrifice fly by Jake Potter to center field to send in runner Tienda to take the huge win to send the Lobos to playoffs and knock out Estacado.
Moore started on the mound for the Lobos as he gave up seven hits and four runs (four earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking five in the game.
Tyler Pemberton earned the win for the Lobos as he appeared in relief for Levelland, giving up five hits and two runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking two.
Levelland tallied up 11 hits in the game. Tienda, Romo and Moore each collected two hits for the Lobos. Tienda led the team with three runs batted in as he went 2-for-4 on the day. Tienda stole three bases in the game as the team had four. The Lobos turned in one double play in the game. Levelland was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error, Rusty Johnson had the most chances in the field with seven.
The Lobos end their season off with a 14-14-1 season record while finishing 5-5 in district play.
The Levelland Lobos are playoff bound as they face off against the Brownwood Lions this Thursday at 6 p.m. in Snyder with the second game on Saturday at 1 p.m. and game three following game two if needed.
