The Levelland Lobos took on the San Angelo Lake View Chiefs this past Friday night for district play where the Lobos lost in overtime 61-53.
In the first quarter of the game, Levelland was outscored by the Chiefs 13-9 in a close battle, then were outscored 14-12 in the second quarter. Although Levelland was able to keep it close the score was 27-21, with the Lobos trailing going into the halftime break.
In the second half is where the game got interesting for both teams.
The Lobos didn’t give up as they won the third quarter 17-13, cutting into the Chiefs lead going into the fourth quarter.
It was the same story in the fourth as they outscored them but barely to tie the game at the very end and make the game go into over time with the score sitting at 51-51.
Although both teams had another quarter to go it was all San Angelo at the end as they outscored Levelland 10-2, taking the district win away from the Lobos.
Anthony Gonzalez and Nehemiah Sanchez both led the team in scoring with 11 points a piece. Sean Landrum and Ozzie Solano both had seven a piece, Eryk Jones, Ethan Salazar and Eli Randol all finished with four points a piece, Graham Gibbs had three points and Jose Muro finished with two points.
Levelland shot the ball well from the field going for 53% while going 24% from three-point range. The Lobos shot the ball for 25% from the charity stripe going 1for-4 on the night.
Levelland was barely outrebounded in their contest 3130 and both teams turned the ball over 17 times a piece while Levelland picked up five blocks throughout the night.
Levelland falls to 14-15 on the season while going down to 2-2 in district play sitting in fourth place in the district. The Lobos will play against the Lubbock Cooper Liberty Patriots this Tuesday at home at 7:30 p.m after facing off against the Estacado Matadors this past Friday on the road.
