Levelland traveled to Graham for tournament

The Levelland Lobos traveled to Graham this past weekend where they went 3-2 throughout the tournament.

The first game of the tournament the team had to go up against the Iowa Park Hawks where the team won 54-48.

The first quarter of the game Levelland went into the game ready as they were able to hang 18 points on the Hawks defense while holding their offense to 14 points taking an early lead.

The second quarter Iowa Park was able to make a little bit of a dent in the Lobos lead as they would be able to outscore Levelland by one and cut the lead, making the score at the end of the half 32-29.

Eryk Jones and Travion Holland were both the leading scorers at the half for Levelland as they both had 10 a piece.

The second half of the game Levelland was able to wrap the game up as they outscored the Hawks 22-to-19 and win the game 54-48.

Leading scorers for the team was Jones and Holland as both finished with 13 points in their first game.

Ozzie Salano was able to finish with double digits as well as he had 12, Jayden Castillo and Graham Gibbs both finished with five points a piece and Sean Landrum and Elijah Jordan both finished with two points.

The Lobos out rebounded the Hawks 38-to-32 and were able to force more turnovers as they forced nine compared to their eight.

The team shot 35 percent from the field while going for 43 percent from the charity stripe.

The team was out blocked as Iowa Park was able to swat away four shots while Levelland had one block in the game from Eryk Jones.

With the team starting 1-0 in the tournament the team had to go up against the Olney Cubs for their second game.

The start of the game Levelland was clicking on all cylinders as defensively they only allowed 13 points in the first half while scoring another 38 points of their own.

Castillo was the leading scorer for the Lobos at the half with 12 points, all of them coming from the paint.

After the break Levelland would let up a little as they would be outscored 15-to-13 in the third and would barely keep Olney out in the fourth by outscoring them 13-to-12.

The Lobos took the win 6440 off of their great second quarter performance.

Leading scorer for Levelland was Castillo as he was able to put up 21 points for the team, he was the only Lobo to get in the double digits.

Jones was able to put up nine, Landrum had another eight for the team, Gibbs, Holland and Salano all had six a piece. Jose Muro had four, Jordan and Anthony Gonzalez both finished with two and Solano finished with one.

Levelland out rebounded Olney 46-to-37 while forcing more turnovers. The team forced 11 steals compared to Olneys six in the game.

The Lobos also shot for 38 percent on both free throws and from the field.

Levelland had six blocks in the game while Olney was only able to get two to go.

Levelland started off the tournament hot starting off 2-0, but had a tough matchup in the Wichita Falls Coyotes where the team took their first loss of the tournament 53-49 in a close one.

The first quarter started off slow for Levelland as they were only able to score nine points while allowing 17 to the Coyotes and falling to an early deficit.

Although it was a bad first quarter for Levelland they were able to claw their way back into the game as they held the Coyotes to three points in the second quarter while scoring eight of their own and battling their way back into the game.

The score at the end of the first half was Wichita Falls leading 20-17.

It would be Castillo once again to lead the Lobos in scoring at the half with 10 points with all of them coming from the paint.

The Lobos had their best quarter of the game coming from the third quarter as the team was able to outscore the Coyotes 20to-18 and cutting the lead down to one.

Although in the end of the fourth it would be the Coyotes to hold on to their lead and put the game away winning 53-49.

Castillo led the Lobos in scoring with 25 points, Holland finished with 12 points, Gibbs had six, Jones had four and Solano finished with two points in the game.

It was Wichita Falls that would win the rebound battle 36to-24 while Levelland led in every other category.

The Lobos were able to force 10 turnovers while the Coyotes were only able to force two in the game.

The Lobos shot 50 percent from the free throw line while going 38 percent from the field.

Levelland would fall to 2-1 in the Graham tournament but would bounce back against the Breckenridge Buckaroos, winning the game 62-59.

Levelland started the game off well as they would outscore the Buckaroos 21-to-13 and taking an early lead in the game.

Second quarter it would slow down for Levelland as they would be outscored 13-to-9 and cutting the Lobos lead 30-26 at the end of the first half.

This time around for the Lobos leading scorer it would be Gibbs as he would have eight in the first half with six of those points coming from beyond the arch.

The second half of the game it would be a much closer game as Breckenridge was able to have a productive third quarter outscoring Levelland 17-to-10 closing in on the lead quickly.

Although it was close Levelland was able to prevail and hold the lead with a strong finish, and take the game 62-59.

Leading the team in scoring would be Lobo Landrum who had 16, Castillo would finish with 13, Jones would have 12 and Gibbs would have 11 in the game.

Although it was a close game throughout the tournament, it wouldn’t be on the backboards as the Lobos would grab 46 rebounds compared to Breckenridge’s 38.

Levelland was able to force 13 turnovers and took care of the ball well as they only turned the ball over nine times in the game.

Levelland shot 40 percent from the field while also shooting 39 percent from free throws.

For the teams last game of the tournament they had to rematch the Iowa Park Hawks where the team fell 76-65.

In the first half of the game Levelland was outscored 39-to-28 as they couldnt stop the Hawks in the second quarter of the game.

Although they were trailing Lobo Castillo was putting up a fight as he led the team at halftime in points with eight in the half.

In the second half of the game Levelland was able to keep up with Iowa Park but after the bad first half and putting themselves in a deficit they were not able to keep up with the Hawks offense.

The leading scorer of Levelland was Castillo as he had another 27 points in the game, Landrum had eight along with Holland, Jones had seven, Gonzalez had four, Gibbs and Salano both had three a peice and Cisneros finished with two.

The Lobos did well and will play against the number two team in Texas Class 1A this Tuesday at home at 5:15 P.M.
