Loboettes basketball start season red hot

The Levelland Loboettes started their season with a couple of wins over Abernathy and Shallowater this past week.

The Loboettes won against Abernathy with a score of 65-44 this past Saturday and they handled business against Shallowater as the away team 4939 this past Tuesday.

In the game against Abernathy the Loboettes scoring wise would do well as Emery Smith and Presley Smith had 15 point each. Carly Tienda also had 12 points along with Destynii Jones finishing with 11 on the night. Olivia Velardez finished with six, Leleani Sanchez had four and Marleah Ruiz finished with two.

The Loboettes caused many turnovers against Abernathy making them give the ball up 28 times in the night.

The Loboettes were almost perfect from the free-throw line as they shot 10-for-13 on the night.

Loboettes started off the season hot with a win over the Abernathy Lady Lopes and took their streak over to the number 16 Shallowater where they would again steal the game as the away team.

Another pair of Loboettes lead the team in scoring again, Lelani Sanchez and Carly Tienda with 11 points each on their teams win over the Lady Mustangs. Pressely Smith earned another 10 off of the bench while Olivia Velardez and Emery Smith had six each. Destynii Jones had another four while Mia Morin and Marleah Ruiz had two each on the road.

Once again the Loboettes caused many turnovers in their win as they made the forced the Fillies to give the ball up 23 times during the night.

Coach Barnett is in his 11th coaching season with the Loboettes and has high goals for himself and his team this year.

“We have the potential to do some special things, win district and make a playoff run,” explained Barnett. “We’re going to have opportunities for that, and we want to work on ourselves and get better.”

Coach Barnett has a philosophy, “Everybody has the will to win, but not everybody has the will to prepare to win.”

With great coaching and amazing talent the Loboettes will go far and don’t have any plans on slowing down this year, with a great start on the season.

The Loboettes are still undefeated with a 2-0 record on the year, as the team played against the Littlefield Lady Cats this past Friday at home, 7 p.m.
