Loboettes finish 3-1 in Littlefield Tournament

The Levelland Loboettes traveled to Littlefield for a tournament that lasted last week from Wednesday through Friday where the girls went 3-1 with their only loss coming from the #9 ranked Clarendon Lady Broncos.

The teams first game of the tournament, the girls played the very first game to kick off the tournament where the girls took a very convincing win against the Olton Phillies winning 69-20.

The team had outscored them in the first half of the game 34-to-7 while holding them to only taking six free throws in the first half.

Leading the Loboettes in scoring at the half was Presley Smith as she had 12 points with all of them coming from in the paint.

The second half was more of Levelland as they put the game away soundly, outscoring the Phillies 36-to-12 and winning the game 69-20.

The girls were able to outdo the Phillies in every category except in blocks where the team was outdone 5-0 from the Phillies.

For rebounds Levelland led the game out doing them 31-to-24 and they were able to force more turnovers as they had 28 steals in the game while only giving the ball up 11 times throughout the game.

Levelland shot for 50% from the floor as a total while going for 41% from three and going 0% from free throws as they only attempted one free throw the entire game.

For the Loboettes second game of the tournament they had to go up against the Portales Lady Rams from New Mexico where the Loboettes won narrowly 37-30.

In the first quarter of the game it was a evenly matched game as both teams werent able to outdo one another. Both offenses were able to put up six points a piece but that where the scoring stopped in the first quarter as the score was all tied up 6-6 at the end of the first.

The second quarter of the game was more Portales as they would outscore Levelland 10-to-9 in the quarter taking the lead going into the halftime break with the score 16-15.

For Levelland it would be Presley Smith who would lead the team in scoring at the half with five points, three of them coming from beyond the arch.

Coming out of the break though it would be a very defensive game once more, but this time it would be Levelland that would outscore the Lady Rams as they did so 8-to-7 and tying the game back up at 23-23.

Finally though for Levelland their offense would come alive as they were able to put up 14 points in the fourth while holding Portales to only seven.

Levelland would finally put the game away winning the fourth quarter with the score 37-30.

Smith would lead the team in scoring throughout the game as she finished with 11, three of them coming from the free throw line towards the end of the game.

Carly Tienda had nine points in the teams win, Olivia Velardez had five points, Destynii Jones had four, two Loboettes had three points in Leilani Sanchez and Tanaesia Brackens and Mia Morin finished the game with two.

Levelland led the game in steals as they had nine in the game while Portales only had five.

They trailed in the rebounding category as they were outdone 34-to-28.

The team shot the ball well from the charity stripe as they went for 44% but throughout the game not much was falling for them as they would go for 16% from behind the arch and 28% from the field.

With the girls starting out 2-0 in the tournament they would still have to play another game right after their close win. Their next game going against the Clarendon Lady Broncos where they took their first loss since November.

The first quarter of the game Levelland would be outscored 13to-11 early on.

Going into the second quarter of the game it would be better for the Loboettes as they were able to outdo them 12-to-5 and take the lead going into the halftime break 23-28.

For Levelland it would be Jones who had it going for her early as she led the team in scoring at the half with nine points, eight of them coming from in the paint.

The third quarter would be troublesome for Levelland as they would be outscored 10-to-6 but still hold the one point lead going into the fourth quarter with the score at 29-28.

The fourth quarter would be the downfall for the Loboettes as they wouldnt be able to hold the Lady Broncos as they let up 21 points scored in the fourth while only putting up 11 of their own.

The Loboettes would finally fall late in the game 48-40 and taking their only loss of the tournament.

Leading the team in scoring against the Clarendon Lady Broncos would be Tienda as she had 17 in the game with eight of the points coming from the free throw line.

Jones finished with 11 points on the night, Sanchez had six and both Morin and Smith finished with three points a piece throughout the game.

The Loboettes were barely outdone on the boards as they had 27 while Clarendon had 28 in the game.

Levelland was able to force more turnovers in the game as they had 18 throughout the game while giving the ball up only 13 times.

The team shot the ball well from the free throw line as they shot for 66%, from the field though they struggles as for total field goals they shot for 29% while going for 8% from beyond the arch.

For the girls final game of the tournament, they faced-off against the Hale Center Lady Owls where they took the great team win 57-26.

The first quarter of the game started off well for Levelland as they were able to take a quick eight points lead outscoring the Lady Owls 18-to-10.

In the second quarter of play Levelland wouldnt slow down as they were able to put up another 15 points in the quarter while holding Hale Center to six points.

Going into the halftime break Levelland would hold the lead 3316.

For the Loboettes it would be Velardez who would lead the team in scoring at the half with nine points, four of them coming from down low in the paint.

Coming out of the break for Levelland it would keep going as they would put up another 10 points of their own while holding the Lady Owls to six points.

The fourth quarter was one of the best for Levelland as they would outscore Hale Center 14to-4 and win the game with a good margin of victory 57-26 for the teams last game of the Littlefield tournament.

Leading the team in scoring was Velardez as she put together 14 points throughout the game with eight of her points coming from down low in the paint.

Both Tienda and Smith put together 10 points a piece in their win, Sanchez had seven, Morin had five, Jones had four, Maddie Stafford had three and two Loboettes finished with two on the night in Kaylee Penner and Brackens.

Levelland led in every category throughout the game with two more blocks than Hale Center, 10-to-6 in steals, and 41to-24 on the boards in their game.

Compared to their last two games in the tournament they shot the ball great going 58% from the free throw line, 35% from beyond the arch and 40% from the field total.

The Levelland Loboettes progress to 22-2 on the season with their first game of district coming up on Friday at home against the Big Spring Lady Steers at 6:15 p.m.
