Loboettes move onto next round

The Levelland Loboettes took on the Krum Lady Cats this past Thursday in Anson where they won their area round matchup 53-33.

The first quarter of the game started off slow as the Loboettes would have their first four points of the game be free throws from the tough defense. That would change late in the quarter though as Levelland would shift the momentum to their side late in the first with back to back three pointers and a last second layup to put them up by seven headed into the second quarter. Halfway into the first quarter Loboette Mia Morin had to leave the court due to her nose bleeding profusely.

The score was Levelland ahead 17-10.

For the second quarter of play Levelland would not be able to have their same success offensively as they would not have many chances to get any open shots, they were however keeping their defense sound as they had most of their eight points in the quarter come off of fast break points from them being able to cause turnovers. Although they were only able to get eight points in the second they were still able to hold Krum to eight as well, holding the seven point lead going into the halftime break.

The score at the break was Levelland leading Krum 25-18 off of their hard nose defense.

Going into the third quarter of the game Levelland would come out of the break shooting as they would hit a few shots from beyond the arch while their defense would hold onto the Lady Cat offense. It was a physical game as Kaylee Penner would be the second Loboette to leave the court due to a bloody nose off of a loose ball that the team’s would scram for. Although it was a physical game Loboette Sydnii Joyce would come off the bench and give the team life as she would fight for every loose ball getting her hands dirty and showing the most amount of hustle when she could. The Loboettes would lead 39-25 going into the fourth quarter of play.

For the final quarter of play, Levelland would make their final adjustments and be able to hold off the Krum offense by only letting up another eight points while they poured on another 22 of their own to take the big playoff win. The Loboettes would have a scare, as Leilani Sanchez would have her leg caught under a Krum player and almost go down with an injury, but was only a minor scare once she stretched out her leg in the final three minutes of the game with the Loboettes up by 20 points.

Leilani Sanchez and Emery Smith both led the team in scoring by having 14 points a piece.

Carly Tienda had another eight points, Mia Morin had six, Olivia Velardez had five, Presley Smith had three, Tanaeasia Brackens had two and Kaylee Penner finished with one in the teams win.

The Loboettes will play their next game in the regional quarterfinals against the #1 Glen Rose Lady Tigers this Tuesday at Abilene Christian University.
