Loboetttes are District Champs

The Levelland Loboettes hosted the San Angelo Lakeview Maidens this past Tuesday for senior night in district basketball play where the team won 87-13.

The first quarter of the game started off hot for Levelland as they were able to get 16 points to fall for them while only allowing the Maidens to get two points in the first. The Loboettes were on fire defensively as they were forcing turnovers that were leading to fastbreak points, the team had 10 of their points from easy looks at the basket.

The second quarter of play was more of the same story as Levelland outscored the Maidens 21-4 extending their lead to 31 points at the half.

The score at the end of the halftime break was Levelland leading 37-6.

Leading the Loboettes in scoring at the half was Emery and Presley Smith as both sisters had seven points at the half.

Going into the third quarter of play Levelland would light up the Maidens from beyond the arch as the team hit four three pointers, three of them coming from Emery Smith who had them in back to back possessions. Levelland outscored Lakeview once more this time 27-5 to put the game out of reach.

For the final quarter of the game Levelland would put the game to bed as they had 23 points to fall for them in the end while their defense still held strong and only allowed two points in the end.

Leading the Loboettes in scoring for the night was Emery Smith as she had 18 points on the night, 12 of them from long range.

Presley Smith had another 17 points for the team, Olivia Velardez finished with 13, Maddie Stafford had 10, Carly Tienda had nine, Tanaeasia Brackens and Mia Morin both had six points a piece, Kaylee Penner had four and Sydnii Joyce finished with two points in the teams win.

Levelland finished off district play as district champions with a perfect 10-0 record.

The teams first playoff game is against the Mineral Wells Lady Rams this Monday at Merkel High School at 6 p.m.
